    rage3d tweak

    sorry but im gonna be lazy and just ask cuz im not really in the mood to chase this down.

    i just installed the tweak prog on XP and for some reason the desktop res is stuck at 640x480, but the (forgot the term) 'extended' desktop is the set resolution. you scroll the window around like playing warcraft to see the other parts of the desktop.

    any thoughts ?

    Just installing the tweaker won't do that.

    Why you are getting that though is because the OS or ATI's drivers think your monitor isn't capable of doing the resolution.

      i promise thats all i did.

      i have an IBM P200. its not the monitor

        You must have saved something in the CDM tab because at install time, the tweaker has no clue where ATI's registry is and that is about all I can think of that would affect that.

          well, anyway... since i dont use XP that much lately, i was behind in drivers and put the 6166's on and it went away.
          i still say rage tweak did it, but i cant say how. no big deal now though

            ok, turns out the new drivers just defaulted to a higher res. it is still doing it. the res setting was at 12x10, but the physical was actually 1280x960. the destop scrolls up and down for the rest.

            wtf is this ?
            i just uninstalled rage3d tweak and its gone. i really dont wanna go back to power strip

              HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Game Util\Custom Display Modes

              Go here and delete the entire key called modes, if it exists.

              Search for DALNonStandardModesBCD1 and DALRestrictedModesBCD1 in your registry and delete them or rename them with .backup at the end.

              Reboot and if you are still getting the problem, it's not the tweaker.

              Most likely you have turned off restricteddal in the tweaker and it is using game util for resetting the refresh rate, you should see the display change mode twice each time if that's the case.
