Need Help with Rage 3D Tweak

When I have the Rage 3D Tweak program installed my Quickbooks 2000 program won't launch. It starts the intro screen then crashes. I am new to the Rage 3D program and don't know how to ajust it to allow my accounting program to run?

    Any help would be great.

Moved to Tweaking forum. Should hopefully get a better response here.

Find the name of the .exe file for quickbooks 2000. (prolly qb2000.exe or some new name we haven't already put in as an incompatible).

then, goto the following reg key in regedit:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Game Util\Incompatibles

Add a new DWORD value with the name of the quickbooks .exe file, and set the value to be 1. you shouldn't have any gameutil prollems with your quickbooks anymore after that.

please post what the .exe name is when you're done though so i can add it by default to the tweaker.

        Quickbooks 2001 Fix

        Thanks it worked!

I added Quickbooks (2001) executible qbw32.exe to the registry as you suggested and everything works fine.

        Thanks again.

        qbw32.exe

Just a question before I try R3dtweak 3.5: what on earth could your tweaker have to do with quickbooks? I don't see how it could mess that up? Is GameUtil trying to run a profile on a 2D application? I'm just totally confused here.

I really have no idea why Quickbooks has a problem with GameUtil... Its one of only a few programs we've ever run into that do that. The GameUtil utility hooks to every application that's opened to see if it is a "game", and so it can store your gamma/brightness/contrast/sound/priority settings for the game/application if you have set that with the hotkeys. For some reason a couple programs freak when we try to hook to them. Other than quickbooks and adobe premiere, Morpheus was the only other major program we've ever seen that behavior happen.

We have a built in "ignore" key in the registry for those few incompatible applications that have been reported from the 100s of thousands of downloads and installations of the tweaker since we added those capabilites. The total total number of apps that are in there is five.

                Some theories:
                • Interferes with some copy protection, serial number stuff etc. I added in NoDllChecks to disable checking for games entirely for debugging purposes, but I don't have any compatibility problems to use it with.
                • Binaries of the application are non standard. The PEF standard isn't exactly standard, some compilers do things differently than others, when checking for dlls I scan the in memory PEF stuff for dll linkage names.
                • Linking with the sound bits of the OS interfering with the app at a binary level. Dunno, just a guess.
