Support Team Rage3D! Start Folding and Save Lives!

This is long, but please at least skim it.

Do you want to give back to the community? Do you want to save lives, including lives of loved ones and even your own? Do you want to have a lot of fun in a competition? Do you want to win free prizes? Do you want an avatar without 1000 posts? This is what can be accomplished by joining Team Rage3D and running [email protected].

[email protected] is a small program that you run on your computer. It uses your spare CPU cycles to help cure diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's. You won't even notice it, and you'll be doing a lot of good.

Still not convinced? Here's a short list of some of the reasons why you should be running this program:

    1. SAVE LIVES
This is the obvious one. It cures diseases. You might save your own life running this program.

    2. EASY TO DO
It's easy. You don't have to take a bunch of biology classes or something. Just run a program.

    3. COMMUNITY
You support your favorite site, Rage3D. This is more than a video card site; this is a community. This is one of the many ways you can be a part of this great community.

    4. COMPETITION
It's a fun competition. There are statistics showing which teams are doing best, and stats showing which individuals are doing best. Think you've got the fastest computer at Rage3D? Prove it.

    5. PRIZES
There are prizes! Periodically, we have random drawings amongst active folders for great prizes. There will be more of these drawings in the future, so you better get in on the action before it's too late.

    6. AVATARS
Active members of the team are entitled to an official Team Rage3D avatar without having to wait until 1000 posts. They're available in a variety of colors, and all the cool kids have 'em.

Frankly, I don't see why you wouldn't join the team. For more information about the project, instructions to join, and a place to post your questions, head over to the Distributed Computing Forum.
I'm so sane, it's driving me crazy.

Yes, instead of b1tching over who has the fastest video card in the world, YOU YOURSELF CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Stop running that damned piece of crap 3DMark program and HELP HUMANITY OUT! Run a simple program and contribute to a greater cause. Who gives a flying **** about a benchmark score. After all, chicks dig hundreds of folded work units more
          You got a sad song?

I got a sad one too.

Bye guys. It's been a lot of fun.

Yes, what am I doing here with my little Athlon XP 2000+? C'mon, don't put those idle CPU clocks to waste! This is very easy to do and is for a good cause...I've seen many people with 1 GHz+ proc's around and am just wondering where all those CPU clocks are going. @Five-seven: I got laid twice thanks to folding.

Well there is a problem... I have been folding but it usually is a waste of time. For some strange reason the program constantly crashes my computer. Actually it crashes all my computers. I have no idea why, they are all very stable with everything else.

                    However I haven't tried it on my 486 DX2/66

Are you, by chance, running overclocked? [email protected] tends to stress a CPU unlike anything else out there, and will reveal stability issues not present with anything else. You will also notice that your temperatures are a few degrees hotter than any other program at 100% CPU usage will produce.

Nope not running overclock and infact I tweaked everything so that it could be as stable as possible. Still after anywhere from 1 hour to 20 hours it hard locks my system. I'm trying to track it down, and believe it or not may be related to videocard drivers!

The reason I say that is thats the only other thing that crashes my computer. If I play DAoC after an hour or two that will also hard lock my computer, and sometimes I get a BSOD with one of the video card driver files listed. So I'm going to try a few different drivers and see what my results are.

If you want you could change the number to 19, or 20, or whatever.

Edit the client.cfg and modify the line "local=(number goes here)"

                                          Mine says "local=611"

                                            Config issue

I installed the [email protected] client several days ago and set the team # to 64 to join the rage team. However, the online stats is listing me on team 1520 (Vegas Odonist). Yet in the config, it still says 64?

                                            What's going on?

                                            Thanks!

                                                                    Hi:

I used to run [email protected] on my old (P3 800/'512MB PC133) computer and had to uninstall it as it kept crashing my machine. The chances of this program ever accomplishing it s goal is vastly remote anyway.
I tried it on my present system (P4 2.8b/1GB PC1066) and it added 12C to my CPU temperature.
I'm now a little wary of these "small, unobtrusive, just run it in background utils".
Although the "Cause" seems worthy I don't want another utility on my system that runs like SETI.
                                                                    Is this one clearly different?

                                                                    Happy trails,

That's the goal. It helps scientists understand the mystery of protein folding, which is quite a mystery. When they understand how it happens and what happens when it goes wrong, they may be able to use this information to cure diseases like Alzheimer's and some forms of cancer.

You can't compare idle temperatures to temperatures under full load. When running a program like this, your CPU is under full load at all times.

If it still crashes like crazy afer the format and reinstall I completely give up... and ill just go around my office and install it on all the computers there
