Problems with HDMI resolution any advice..?

    Hello

I have Windows Vista 64 with the latest Cats 8.12.

I have the Sapphire 4870 set with a DVI output to my Samsung 22" Pebbles @ 1680x1050.
I also have the DVI <> HDMI supplied dongle to output the HDMI to my 50" Samsung Plasma 558s TV @ 1920x1080.

The sound is carried through the cable fine and outputs to the TV.

At the 1080p resolution of 1920x1080 I get about a 2" border all around the TV which I use the Overscan / Underscan setting to 0 to fill the full screen. So whilst it might no longer be 1:1 at least the screen is at its fullest.

However even though there are different resolutions in the HDTV list to select when I do select and apply them the resolution of the TV remains the same @ 1920x1080.

As my wife's computer is in the same room I temporarily pull out the adapter from my 4870 and attach it to her 8800 GTS card and then I not only get, imo, much easier settings vis the system tray icon, it does seem more sophisticated as well, but I can change to 720p 60hz @ 1280x720 and the TV switches to that and runs fine.

Back to the 4870 and I have found that it is impossible to first of all fill the screen without having to overscan the picture but I'm unable to change HD resolutions on the TV even though they are there to select and apply. The TV flickers but nothing actually changes. The TV is correctly identified with a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 @ 60hz.

The NVidia card works a treat with no problem.

Can anyone help please as I do want this to work with my 4870..?
