Need to split video signal from gfx card to tv. which cable?

I already have my pc monitor running on the vga output on the card and was wondering what cable i would need since i'm looking to use my tv's vga input for an additional signal.
I bought a "DVI Analog Male / VGA(HD15) Male Cable" to use on the dvi output(?)of my card to run into my tv's vga input. the cable doesnt work so i know im doing something wrong here. Is this even possible or do i need to buy something else??
I wasnt sure about using the DVI to VGA Converter as I have read that in some cases it can cause bandwidth issues sending data or something of that nature.

Might be the cable, I had the same kind of problem with an LCD monitor.
Connecting it with the existing cable that was working on my old monitor, it did not work. I bought a new cable and then it worked.

Strange thing. The same cable that didn't work on that LCD monitor DOES work on my other (new) LCD monitor

No, wouldn't cause issues I think. Done it without any problems here. Friend of mine hooks up his laptop to his tv with dsub.
