    Old FireGL4, help!

Hi guys, I have an old FireGL4 graphics card here, and I have installed the official WinXP drivers, but I can't run -any- 3D applications, it's even slow doing normal windows animated stuff.

When I tried to run some games it gave me "not enough video memory installed".

What do I have to do to get this running? Do I need the ATI Catalyst stuff? Is it even possible to enable D3D for this card?

I've installed the Schneider Digital site's driver v21.06. If that's of any help.

Sorry but the if your card is the ATI Diamond Fire GL 4 then you have a pre Radeon based Fire GL.

The first Radeon based Fire GL was released in 2002 and based on the R200W core aka similar or same GPU as the Radeon 8500 graphics card that was released way back in late 2001 to combat the Nvidia GeForce 3.

Therefore if what my instinct and memory tell me your card can only do Open GL apps and CANNOT do any DirectX level rendering because those cards were pure Open GL compliant in those days before Nvidia turned their Ge Force into Quadro and ATI bought Diamond and turned their Radeon 8500 into the Fire GL 8800 and 8700.

BTW I have the FGL 8800 and prior owned a deceased Diamond Fire GL 1 so I did the research that basically was that 1 tru 4 were non ATI parts or Diamond products before ATI swallowed them up.

My deceased Diamond Fire GL 1 used to render or rasterize the crap out of Soldier of Fortune One real nice and accurate, so yeah as far as old Open GL games pre driver release they should play but post... good luck...

I still have trouble getting the Fire GL 8800 to actually play Quake 3 Team Arena with their last drivers since I am stuck using their 7.98.6 drivers for my new SMP PIII 1Ghz IBM Intel OR840 mobo with 768MB of Dual Channel RDRAM.

Why are you using 7.98.6 when the IBM/Schneider (*not* ATI) 8.083.1 drivers work fine..? My system is a dual P3 1GHz 440BX system and never had an issue.

(although, in fairness I am now trying to run a hacked version of the Omega drivers, and possibly trying the DNA drivers later as I've added a Radeon 9250 to my system and the FireGL drivers object strongly to it..)
