Using a Fire GL X1 for gaming...

I assume that because it's a professional quality workstation card, it would be more than equal to the Radeon cards. But is it actually worse for gaming, since that's not its intended use?

I just got a new Dell workstation with that card, which I use mostly for work. But I'm having some trouble running games that require DirectX and a 3D accelerator...

    Thanks in advance.

edit: I found and read through the other gaming thread, and attempted to follow Shloppy's instructions, but couldn't get the Catalyst drivers to install correctly. All the file editting worked fine, the RevaTuner program ran fine and successfully overwrote the antimag.sy_ file, but then the drivers themselves still wouldn't install.

Is there something else preventing that from working, or am I just not understanding the instructions? I'm completely in the dark when it comes to this kind of thing, so you'd have to really explain it in laymen's terms...

I'm a student now, but I'm majoring in finance so I do a lot of financial models and stuff like that. I've also always had a vocational interested in architecture so I do a little AutoCAD.

The new system was a gift (my dad is quite a computing nut), but I really don't need a FireGL card, and if a Radeon card is actually better for gaming I'll exchange it for a 3800 or something.

Why get rid of it? The fireGl x1 is a great card it will run games at least as well as a radeon pro 9700. I have a firegl X2 and a radeon 9800 pro. Both cards gaming performance is pretty comparable although the firegl x2 has a slight edge when it comes to picture quality and performance at higher resolutions. Mainly the firegl has more features than the radeon such as hardware overlays, and ofcourse is more stable than the radeon. The tech support for the firegl is far better than that of the radeon. Thats probably the reason you don't see many support forums for firegl's.

but the games I have, which require MS DirectX, simply won't run with the FireGL card

            Which games?

I'm using a genuine FireGL X1-128 running with the latest FireGL drivers (which infact are based on the 3.10 Catalysts) and have experienced zero compatibility problems.

FireGL cards have complete DirectX, and D3D compatibility.

Everythin OK except the OpenGL games

All are running fine here on all kind of FGLs (FGL 8800, X1-256, X2-256).

There's something broken if DX accel wont run...
