this card cost 750$ at newegg. i know its the type of card wich is used to do graphics design and stuff, my question is, how does it compare to cards like a radeon98xt or fx5950? does it play games like halo with a super smooth fram rate? i mean for almost 800$ wouldent the card be good enought to do that? or is this card not for gaming, but for game design?

grab any usual r300+ radeon, apply rivatuner's mod (it will allow to install special pro drivers on usual card) and u'll get ur 750$ cardWell, since its x2-256mb u'll need to buy (i think) if u want 256mb of memory either 9800/pro 256mb or xt256mb. Or buy radeon 9700/pro 128mb - why do u need 256?
And for ur question - ther is almost no difference in gaming. 1-2 fps.

If $750 is no problem, better yet get the 9800xt 256mb and just wait for the softmod and you'll get FireGL X3.
What's nice about the softmod is that if you have a dual/multi boot, on one os you can use the card as 9800xt for gaming, on the other os as FireGL X3 for pro graphics, without doing anything to the hardware, of course this is just an example.

If you want to use it for gaming, you can only game in OpenGL, due to the drivers....

I think the latest unified Firegl drivers work all right on all games I play. I use a 9500 np modded to firegl x1 with these drivers. on earlier drivers , I would get Texture corruption in The Hulk, but now its working 100 %.Abit NF7-S FSB 210 Mhz

FireGL's game just fine in D3d. One of the biggest selling points for them in the professional industry is their direct X abilities. Every professional card out there is going to offer great OGL performance, however the FireGL's (based on the Radeon cores) are great all around performers.wat
