Just one question, what IS a "FireGL workstation card"?
Lets say for instance you worked in the multimedia industry and use programs such as Maya, Studio MAX, Autocad etc. It generally acclerates your application viewport so that you can work quicker.
Oh did i forget to mention that they cost ALOT of wonga!
I'm thinking the forum name needs to be slightly changed? Something a little more like "FireGL Workstation Cards Discussion" or something like that... the current title seems to be missing something.
and _maximilian_, I'll have to ask you to change your sig man, that's a little too annoying
Originally posted by bounty_hunter Im actually looking to buy a firegl, im currently learning max and may take classes in maya.
How much can you spend ?
My company bought me the cheapest one there is and its accleration is minimal plus i got this AWFUL, UNFORGIVING bug in studio max that crashes the entire OS and screws up the last saved file whenever i select and try to use the Select and Rotate gizmo, it does this 30-40% of the time so ive had to disable the driver support in order to each those deadlines. Not good i can tell you.
my system at work:
FireGL 8800
Dual P4 Xeon 2.4 Compaq System
1 gig of Ram
WinXP
Yeah, any r300 can be forced into a firegl card... not sure about the r350/360. Remember the hardmod thing a while ago for 9500s? Well, there is another "jumper" next to that one you can change to allow you to install the firegl drivers. Search around a bit, you'll find all the info you need (in Tweaks).
Or you could toy with the drivers a bit. Just a matter of changing ids I bet (like the softmod 9500np - 9700).
