    Best Memory Specs for Kaveri

Considering doing a 7850k build in the near future; what I've read so far indicates that faster memory has a huge impact on performance (at least as far as the iGPU is concerned)...so I would be better off buying the fastest I can get.

I haven't seen anything on latency, though....my understanding (perhaps incorrect) has always been that there's basically no, or very little, difference performance-wise in say, cas11 2400mhz versus cas10 ddr2133 versus cas9 1866mz...

does that hold true for APU systems? Or do I just get some 2133 or 2400 sticks and not worry about it? And what concerns should I have about what voltage to get?

I asked this question elsewhere and got a "use the mobo QVL" response. Obviously that would/should suffice, but I like to try and have some idea of what I'm putting together and why.

Read QVLs as this processor and the boards tend to be bitchy in regards to what RAM is shoved in there. Try to get as close to 2133 as you can since iirc it's the fastest non-overclocked supported RAM.

I've never had the issues in regards to RAM speeds in the past like I do with this generation.

Memory speed does have a benefit unless there is a significant difference in latencies.

A10-7850K supports JEDEC 2133 and AMP 2400 speeds.

For best performance run 2x8GB DDR3-2400 sticks (dual rank - double sided DIMMs).

As ASCII mentions, check the QVL for memory to ensure that your selected memory is tested to work. AMD AMP kits are tested by AMD and the mobo manufacturer to ensure they work.

Although they don't specify whether they're using the somewhat expensive and often not identified as.. dual rank dimms, there's not much difference between 2133 and much more expensive 2400 sets. I could be wrong (#cough#) and I'm sure someone will correct me if so, but dual rank dimms have U2 in the part number.
Anyhow.. take a look at these results.

Got everything but the RAM sticks....

what's up with G.Skill having umpteen million product lines....ripjaws, ripjaws x, ripjaws z, ares, trident, trident x, blah, blah, blah....

those AMD modules look nice, but damn they are a bit pricey...about a $40 premium for the 2400 sticks
