Performance Analysis - Application & Gaming

To begin, we ran FutureMark's 3DMark11 in both Performance and Xtreme presets:

The results are below; mouse over individual results for more details:

3DMark 11 - Performance & Xtreme preset test results.

Next we look at Cinebench performance, as it is a multi-thread benchmark that can use AVX hardware. It's engine is quite popular for rendering, too.

Rendering - Cinebench 10.5 CPU score

Compression - Next we looked at compression, using WinRAR 4.01 and 7zip 9.20. We measure the time to compress twenty-four 10MP jpegs from the SSD to an archive on the SATA-3 HD, using RAR or 7z compression.

Compression - 7-Zip 9.20 x64

Compression - WinRAR 4.21 x64

Finally we used a special build of x264 which has support for both AVX and XOP, to compare video encoding performance using Techarp's HD Benchmark tool.

Encoding - X264 HD Bench (pass 1, pass 2: FPS)

Gaming - We benched five games to compare performance at high settings:

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (SP) - 1920x1080 high settings, HBAO off, 8xMSAA; Heavy Metal level

Civilization 5 - 1920x1080 8xMSAA, lategamebench in DX11

Crysis 2 (SP) - 1920x1080 Ultra, EdgeAA, DX11, HiRes textures, Times Square bench

DiRT 3 - 1920x1080 4xMSAA Ultra Preset; Finland stage

Medal of Honor (SP) - 1920x1080 high settings with AA, Breaking Bagram
