Default Leaked Benchmark of Northern Islands 'Cayman' a.k.a. 'HD 6800' is Approx HD 5970

A screenshot of Futuremark Vantage benchmark puported to be run on a HD 6800 series card has surfaced, with a score that wouldn't embarrass a HD 5970 (according to PCPer.com):

Techpowerup.com's GPU-Z Author 'W1zzard' indicates he sees nothing in the GPU-Z to indicate it is faked.

This comes the same day as next generation code names were found in the recent Catalyst 10.8 driver, building suspicion AMD are launching their next generation architecture this year. Despite the cancellation of TSMC 32nm node, it appears AMD have a strong successor for the well-received and very successful Evergreen series.

The RAM bit falls in line with what I've seen speculated elsewhere in terms of speed, that being 6.4Gb/s GDDR5 modules.

Depends where GPU-Z gets the name field from really since normally drivers for unreleased products don't have the card family names in them they have the codenames instead and so do the card BIOS strings. So if its getting it from the drivers or BIOS then I would say that screenshot is a fake.

Man, whether these are real or not, come October, I hope these are out. Specifically by October 10th. I have zero interest in any CPU, memory, or hard drive upgrades this year, but a new pair of video cards might be nice to rekindle my interest in PC hardware again.

Birthday budget goes into effect. My PC birthday budget this year is significantly less then last years budget because I've been blowing so much on building cars and guns lately, but I still can swing up to 800 bucks I think for a pair of 6870's. That's actually my budget for upgrades for the whole of this year, but fortunately, I haven't needed any up till now.

A pair of 6870's? Heck, should be good for a bit longer then that I hope. The 5870's have held me over well since their launch, I doubt the 6870 will do worse then that.

Oh, hopefully. I'm more hoping we see something similar to last year's 5870 launch though. I jumped in the week they launched and managed to put the snag on a pair before everybody went stock belly up, and that was like late September or early October I think. The receipt is filed away and I cannot find it right now to double check. If I have to pre-order to ensure I don't get stuck out, I'll do it. I remember how ugly it got to try to find a single 5870 shortly after launch, let alone a pair.

From the rumours posted the high end cards aren't launching first so you would have to wait. That's if those rumours are true of course.

I hope they are cause october release may seriously impact my epeenis size, and I just can't decide (despite trying) to sell my 480 before trying all those physX games.

Garth Merenghi quotes
Most of you will probably know me already from my extensive canon of chillers including "Afterbirth" in which a mutated placenta attacks Bristol.

Everyone has a special talent. Mine is being able to write, produce direct, act, paint... Other people are good plumbers, that's their gift.

There are rebels and there are innovators. I'm a rebel. I play a rebel brain expert who's in rebelliance against conventional logic, who's in rebelliance against the world order. It's about rebelliance. And if that's not being an innovator, I don't know what is.

In times of conflict, when you're up against an agressor, be he human, be he inhuman, whoe'er he be, often he is both.

Greetings traveller. Who am I? Perhaps you have met me twixt sleep and and wake - in the penumbra of uncertainity you call unconsiousness... you know, my books are essentialy about "what ifs". In "Black Fang" I asked - what if a rat could drive a bus? And what if it and its rat brethren took over and ate Parliment?

A lot of people say "Garth Merenghi? Doesn't he write that horror crap?" Well, you're an idiot, because my books always say something, even if it's simple like "Don't geneticaly engineer crabs to be as big as man". There's always a message or a theme.
