A post by Smokejumper, the producer of PS. SmokeJumperPS Station Admin posted 04-26-2003 07:39 PM user search report post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let me guess? Windows2000? Win2K (my work system and home system are this so I'm well aware) have a texture unloading bug. It's not our game specifically, it's a Microsoft issue that we're trying to overcome anyway. Microsoft (in its infinite wisdom) didn't do well with optimizing UN-loading of textures. It's very slow. WinXP doesn't have this issue...just us poor 2K users. We've fixed it in many areas, but if you're low on system RAM already (and 384 isn't low, but it's less than the optimal 512), then you can get into issues that way. Recommendation (if you're W2K) is to run at Medium or Low texture resolution. I ususally run Medium textures with no ground flora. The end-result is still great looking, but I don't get hammered by texture unloading nearly as much. Just an idea. And you didn't list your OS, so I'm guessing...but it's good advice anyway. |
