Low FPS in w2k? Poor performance? Try this: 0.Install DX8 and DX8a 1.Download DX8beta140 2.Unpack for example to c:\temp 3.Copy d3dim700.dll from unpacked DX8beta140 to c:\winnt\system32\dllcache and c:\winnt\system32 4. w2k should try to recover this file 5. press cancel and do not any recovery 6. restart windows 7. try 3dmark2000 (for example high polygon count) 8. try UT with new D3DDrv.dll 9. ))))))))))))adamd@grafik.3d.pl PIII 866, 320MB, I820 - 4879 3dmarks in 1024x768x16 Last edited by Xenomorph_pl : Mar 5, 2001 at 11:59 AM. |

I haven't been able to give this a try yet, but I will soon. I just have a couple of questions for you. How did you come about this thing? What exactly does it do/why does it work? Mostly just out of curiousity. I suppose if it really works then I wont care why. ![]() Temjin |

Well, i tried it, and yes. It works. It doesn't seem to help much on things that are fill rate limited but the Transform and lighting is waay sped up by this.. It's amazing, with the regular d3d dll the 3dmark high polygon thing gets really jerky with lost of lights, but with this.. Smooth as hell. As far as i can tell it hasn't done a great deal to my ailing UT framerate. |

I just tried it too. Yes it works, at least in 3DMark. Things are alot smoother, and the 3DMark score is comparable to Win9x now.

Same here - I used the Generic (speed) profile from RadeonTweaker and got 4662 (default benchmark) with no overclocking and no other tweaks. Next stop: powerstrip! Will report back...

Man I hope this works, can't wait to get off of work to try it! This has been what I've been working on ever since I bought this cards (Win2K perforamce). Since I run a SMP system I need to run Win2K which the drivers for are crap. I orginally bought this card to see if it fixed a problem I was having which turned out to be something else and now I'm stuck with it hehe.. but it's turning out not to be so bad, escpecially if this works ![]()

Well, overclocked to 189mhz and got 5150:-) I need to try some games now. I wonder where the bugs are with this older version?

Download Radeon Tweaker (check the front page of rage3d) and load the Generic (Speed) profile.

What's the story on this d3d dll anyway? Is it from another version of the dx8 redist that will be launched, featuring some lower latencies? dx8b, perhaps? Is it from a release candidate for the directX redist that was pipped to the post by another for some reason.. What murky past lies behind this speed demon dll...? |

You have it - however, it is marked as a hidden directory. Use explorer to navigate there after unselecting all the options concerning hiding system files. Make sure you rename the old one with .bak extension in case you want to revert back. This .dll came from a beta of dx8.
