Started jacking up the kilotons to get whole countries. Can do the US with about 500 gigatons, can do an entire hemisphere with 15 teratons.

WE NEED MOAR POWER.

Wow. These nukes are far less powerful than I thought they were judging by the detonation radius.

There is no animation though...

I was hoping for a Tsunamy on lake Ontario after the
greater part of Front Street slid into the water...

Gotta keep in mind that you're not looking at the whole effect, but just the immediate total destruction. You're not looking at partial (though significant) destruction, or side effects like electrical damage, road and infrastructure damage, fallout, etc. Not to mention the human damage like heat and radiation burns and blindness, sickness, etc.

Plus, that map isn't accounting for the height of detonation. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were exploded roughly 2,000 feet/600 meters above the city, which helped maximize blast impact. They effectively exploded downward and outward, not just up and out. That's a different scenario from, say, someone carrying a similar-yield suitcase bomb into a downtown area or a subway or airport.

...well, that's a hell of a way to start my morning: being reminded of my enduring fear of nuclear annihilation. On the bright side, it'd take an H-bomb to get me if downtown Dallas got hit...but still.

Damn you, The Day After!

Seriously. That movie scared the living hades out of me when I was growing up. Scarred me, actually. But if I'm gonna go in a nuclear holocaust, hopefully I'll be at ground zero. I'd rather go quickly.

Of course the first thing I load up is my home near Washington D.C. and the Zarbomba.

Good Fing Lord!

Damage all the way out to the damn mountains.

What's even worse, is that it wouldn't be just one bomb it would be multiple smaller one's in a circle perimeter that would compound the blast wave in the inner circle, similar to the 9th level of Hell.

Just F-me sideways.

Interdasting. I never read that in any of the history books I had to read about it.

Why did guys in black suits and glasses park a Ace Tomato Company truck across the street from me all day?

Severely broken.

Height of burst is extremely important. A detonation near ground level is needed to take out a hardened target like rail roads(yes, even thought they are rendered silly by wet leaves every autumn, they are surprisingly nuke resistant) or missile bunkers. Ground level detonations don't have a clear line for thermal effects on distant buildings and most of the blast is wasted down into the ground or up into the air, only a thin "sliver" of blast is actually aimed at civilian buildings.

For high altitude bursts you have EMP effects that can do significant damage to infrastructure over a wide area but have zero direct human casualties.

An air burst at the correct height has a mach stem of a refracted and intial waves that amplifies the overpressure at ground level.

Lots of circumstances are important. Blast injuries are primarily from collapsing buildings and flying glass and shrapnel, not from direct effects of blast overpressure on the human body. Flying shrapnel is mostly at chest height, because that's where the windows are. The heat pulse lasts for a number of seconds, giving time to do something about it. Ducking and covering is quite effective at reducing damage from both heat and shrapnel and has major impact on survival rates.

Even weather is important in regards to thermal radiation.

In Hiroshima it hadn't rained for weeks, it was a clear, cloudless day. They had houses made of wood and furnished with paper screens and other flimsy, flamable junk. The blast happened at lunchtime, this was deliberate; they were using charcoal braziers for cooking, which when toppled over started most of the fires. In Nagasaki the conditions were only slightly better and yet, there was no fire storm.

People who happened to be in the few concrete buildings(banks and such) at the time of the blast had a survival rate at near 50% even within a few hundred meters of the barycenter, directly below the blast.

What does nukemap say for little boy?:
Air blast radius: 0.7 km / 0.43 mi (1.54 km˛ / 0.59 mi˛)
20 psi overpressure; heavily built concrete buildings are severely damaged or demolished; fatalities approach 100%.
