Any UI mods? That for me is the biggest issue.

I've added a lot of mods now (for even little things like better gold coin appearance and such) and all the little graphic and texture upgrades really combine for a lot nicer experience.

I just tried the Skyrim Nexus Mod Manager (in beta). I really love it. (awesome free tool). http://www.skyrimnexus.com/content/modmanager/

WARNING: The Mod Manager requires your Skyrim Nexus user name and password. If you make this from the main site the system will allow you to use special characters for the password (*,%, etc.). That will work for the forums, but for the files and Mod Manager don't allow special characters in the password field (so just use letters and numbers if you make an account).

PROS
  • You don't have to open it first to launch Skyrimm
  • On the website, when you are logged in, the files all have 'download with Mod Manager' links that open files directly into Mod Manager that downloads the mods.
  • Can remove and temp disable any of the mods with check box selections
  • Prompts you to auto-upgrade mod versions on startup if a new version of an installed mod is released.
CONS
  • Takes a while for it to check in and get that status of all the mods
  • Crashed a lot when I was adding new mods. A couple of times I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill it's process.
NOTES
  1. Puts a explanation point next to any version that are 'beta' in nature.

I seriously doubt the texture pack is causing crashes, but I have the same issue where after a little while in game some wall and armor textures go bluish purple.

This one seems to have fixed all my crashing problems:

I've never had the textures turn into plastic, though I've had some walls just fail to load utterly. Apparently the interior of all buildings is somewhere in the mountains.

Automatic LAA fix (large-address-aware so the app can use more than 2GB of RAM.. fixes a lot of CTD's): http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=112556

Not Skyrim-specific but a must have.

I really want a mod that would change the perk dragon armor in smithing to also allow crafting of daedric weapons, is that something that would be hard to mod? or would that require the tools that bethesda didn't release yet?

Yeap, works with the latest version (however you need the vanilla .exe file. If you have modified it via a hex editor it won't work)

If you want to drive your ass over to Bethesda HQ and do all the final work needed to release it during your "Let's stuff our faces until we gain 20lbs" holiday, go ahead, the guys over at Bethesda sure as hell aren't.

This is not really a mod, it's a bunch of commands that let you change your race, appearance, and respec your perks mid game. (some might call it cheating, I call it the ability to try different builds without creating a new character.

make sure you do this on a sepeate save game incase you mess something up.

In console type:
CHANGE RACE - player.setrace "race name" (no quotes)
when you change your race all your stats and skills stay exactly the same, the only thing that changes is race bonus and power, so a Breton would get Dragonskin, and 25% magic resistance

CHANGE APPEARANCE - showracemenu
important: don't change the race from this menu or your skills and attributes will get reset
a character creation menu pops up press the ~ key to be able to change your appearance but not race.

PERK ID - help "perk name" ID - (perk name in quotes ID without quotes)

REMOVE PERK - player.removeperk ID
after you remove a perk it does not get refunded to you, you will need to re-assign perks to different skills using the addperk command so remember haw many perks you removed if you want to re-assign the same amount to different skills

ADD PERK - player.addperk ID
note you can add individual perks without needing to have the previous perks, for example If you went with light armor crafting but also want to craft the best weapons you can add the Daedric Smithing perk by itself.
