Roughly 6 weeks from now, and it seems it'll be the high performance versions coming out first, but in low volumes so get them as soon as they're out basically.....Seems a repeat of the 40nm launch and also having low yeilds for the first few months...

The XDR2 rumor refuses to go away...

And why should it go away? GDDR5 is pretty well maxed out on the fastest cards so do you think they are going to cripple the new performance leaders by continuing to use GDDR5 on them? GDDR5 is no longer a high performance technology like it used to be. If the charts showing HD7870 and HD7850 as die shrunk versions of HD6970 and HD6950 are true, then that will probably be the last generation of mainstream cards to use GDDR5 as well.

Well the main issue is that i don't know of any of the major memory companies making XDR2 in the first place, so it's kinda hard to see it being used anytime soon...

yeah I know but it has been GF that has been working with Rambus, giving awards to them etc. doing R&D and stuff. Maybe it was all for free.

Then again GF is having a hard time producing what they are producing now. Maybe when New York plant opens up we will see some more production of chips.

It looks like a partnership between GF and Samsung *may* have formed to produce XDR2, according to this:

It seems too much of a coincidence that they should have jointly developed a process much needed for XDR2 production just in time for HD7900 production to start.
