Default Gaming Laptop Recommendations?

My birthday is in December, really close to Christmas. So I ask for one present per year. I have come to the realization that I REALLY DO (despite my arguments to the contrary) need a laptop for college, now that I'm at a real university.

What gaming laptops would you recommend? I figured that a gaming laptop can do what a ****ty Dell can and it also lets me play games in downtime (or, uh, boring classes).

I'm not looking to run Crysis, but I am looking to run modern games. I also can't afford the super duper tippity top of the line models, so if you can give me lower-end-of-the-high-range, or upper-end-of-the-mid-range that would probably be best.

Please include prices. I can look up figures on my own but if you include those they're extra nice.

Acer Aspire for $999? http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-AS.../dp/B003SE67PC

Looking at the specs, it should beat the crap out of the iBuyPower. I've used one in person - the LED screen is very good.

I know its out of your price range, but look into Asus laptops. They were rated for the best quality for them. I personally just bought a desktop replacement one.. yes a desktop replacement..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220695

This sucker is a BEAST!! In both size and power, and yet its still 1lb lighter then my 3 year old Dell 1521.

Yeah, those things are really nice, but they are expensive.

If you want something you can take notes on with a stylus, check out the HP tm2t. It's a smaller convertible tablet/laptop, but you can get them with decent specs. It'd be more practical, but somewhat less capable gaming machine. One of my friends has a slightly older model, and likes it. He can run most recent games on it, just not at super high settings, I'd imagine the new one with the HD5450 would do alright.

That looks great - for the price.

Too bad that it doesn't come with USB 3.0 and SATA3 support.

Btw, I just noticed that the one I posted has a 5650 instead of the 5850 (which is what I used at Canada Computers http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=032828).

Take a look at MSI's GX660: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152205
It looks like it's a pretty good deal.

If that's out of your price range you can probably still find a GX640 for $800-$900. I can personally attest to its quality

Yeah, my buddy had an ASUS running Crysis. I drooled a little.

I don't know my exact pricerange. If my parents have a say, it's probably $800 if I'm lucky. Hopefully I'll get a ****ing callback from one of the twenty places I applied for and I can buy it myself or bump up the pricerange myself.
