51 to 49 percent According to Mercury Research beancounters, ATI has managed to overtake Nvidia in discrete graphics sales. Nvidia was traditionally the stronger player in the market and a year ago it had a 59 percent market share, while ATI was short of 41 percent. In Q2 ATI managed to grab 51 percent of the market, while Nvidia slipped down to just under 49 percent. As they say, what a difference a year makes. Nvidia still has a decent chance to get back in the game with several upcoming GF10x products and the GF104. However, it is clear that ATI’s DirectX 11 lead has had a major impact on Nvidia’s business. If we look at overall graphics sales, including IGPs and CPU-integrated graphics, Intel still reigns supreme with a 54.3 percent share. ATI is also going strong with 24.5 percent and Nvidia has to make the best out of 19.8 percent. Last year Nvidia’s overall share was 29.6 percent. Obviously, AMD and Intel will continue to dominate the IGP market. Things are not looking up for Nvidia lately and the company has already announced that its revenue would not meet earlier projections. More here. Link |

The sooner meathead nVidia users switch to ATi gfx card solutions the better. All the nVidia users just dont get it. They'll never learn. Ohh well. AMD and ATi for life. |

Would you like to elaborate on why nVidia users are meatheads? What is ATi even doing that is so great besides releasing the card earlier and having a smaller chip. I really want you to explain it, instead of repeating the same stupid lines. |

Who cares? Now if Nvidia users are meatheads then what are folks using Nvidia and ATi at the same time? |

Well the scary part is, meaning marketshare for a given quarter, what will it look like next quarter? Now if the the given trend continues, will that put ATi at 60%? |

Do you like Fords are Chevys? Same type of question with the same type of answers. It's usually what you're familiar with, not what's actually the best. |

I like both NVIDIA and ATI but prefer the latter. NVIDIA still leads in the desktop market while ATI has the notebook market. ATI is the overall leader but not by much. To me this hardly qualifies as news.

Some just don't realize there is a massive trend here going on, if it continues ATi will have over 60% market share with discreet graphics by next year. That changes a lot of things from developers prospective, bettter pricing due to higher volumn, OEM usage etc.. 51/49% seems close and it is, what is not close is the big change that has happened this year, ATi was starting out at 41% in the beginning of this year. In two quarters they gained 10%! |

What's the difference who's leading in market share today? It always goes back and forth. ATI is making more money, but NVIDIA has the better high-end product. The GTX 480 definitely beats the HD 5870, and two GTX 480s in SLI destroys two HD 5870s in Crossfire. However, ATI is still cleaning up with a GPU that is much cheaper to make and much cooler. NVIDIA "won this round" in terms of performance, but not in profit. ATI has competitive DX11 cards from top to bottom. NVIDIA has a real competitor in the GTX 460, but how much $$$ is really made on that GPU. NVIDIA is still looking to introduce its low-end DX11 parts while ATI is preparing the new HD 6xxx series for an October/November launch. Who is really the graphics leader here?

Nobody cares about the GPU market now anyways. Let's talk about how Android smartphones are now outselling iPhones by a ratio of 4:1!
