Disc-Less PS3 Netflix Launching Soon
PlayStation 3 Netflix users will soon be able to use the service without having to insert a disc into their console each and every time.

Netflix stated from the beginning that a disc-less version would eventually launch in 2010, but a timeframe was never given. CEO Reed Hastings recently stated in the company's latest earnings call, however, that an improved version of Netflix for PS3 is coming in the next couple months.

"Before our next call in October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesn't require a disc and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements," he said.

Hastings also commented on the newly announced Hulu Plus service, which is currently available in preview form on PS3 and will launch later this year.

"Once Hulu Plus has a few hundred thousand subscribers we'll be able to learn from consumers what they like about Hulu Plus," he added. "Then we'll work to incorporate what we find back into Netflix."

"The Hulu team is sharp, and we're not going to underestimate them."

Netflix Streaming Coming to Canada

Canadians will soon have access to the streaming Netflix movie and television service currently enjoyed by Americans. The company announced its plans for the first expansion of the streaming video service beyond US borders today, with the full rollout coming this fall.

The press release says that the instant streaming will be available "via a range of consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix, as well as watching on PCs and Macs," suggesting that this will work with home consoles.

The Canadian Netflix service will be streaming only, a first for the company.

Netflix in Canada sounds good in theory but in practice we're all pretty much tied up with our hands behind our back because of the low download cap the Internet providers are giving us.

Theres plenty of dsl providers that have either unlimited or insanely high data caps.

Cant wait for it to come to canada.

I solved the disk issue by making my kids insert the disk. So this is more good news to them than it is to me.

the major ones do though and that's what the majority of Canadians probably use.

maybe i saw the search when i was using my ps3. dunno, either that or maybe they just removed that feature to conserve bandwidth.

This would be great cause i live in rural ontario, except for the fact that satellite has a bw cap of 20gb and rogers/bell wireless net is pay per gig
