Default Raids and applications

I see here there is always questions regarding raid and what raid type to use. Raid configurations can sometimes be "religious" in theory as there is theoretically a justification for every raid type based on admins personal preferences, application deployment, and the architecture deploying the raid; especially when you are start managing enterprise storage: Net APP, EMC, Isilon, Compellent, Pillar, Dell, IBM, SUN, HP, etc...

Overall I think this site gives a pretty good basic overview of the different raid types and their general overall ideal application deployment. Maybe we should sticky it for general users who are interested in fine tuning their I/O? EDIT: Also stop all the FUD around raid

Danke!

RAID arrays - descriptions & pics of different RAID levels and applications to use them for (i.e. Raid 0 - not for saving your family pics!) - this made me laugh!
