Default Need interview attire advice ASAP

I have a co-op interview today and was figuring I'd wear a dress shirt and tie, with dress pants, and a sweater over top. The dress shirt and tie are light blue and the sweater is black along with the pants being black. The sweater is meant to be worn for dress stuff, it's pretty thin, not thick like a hoodie. Think this is ok?

If the shirt and tie go fine with the pants just wear that? No need for a sweater, unless it looks really good.

Hopefully someone else can chime in. Maybe mention what co-op position/workplace (and is it for college/highschool etc)

Good luck!

College. I think it looks good, fiance last night saw it on said it looked good. Shirt and tie go good but I think the sweater makes it look better to match with the pants.

I would trust the fiancee if she knows anything about dressing or making you dress nice.

thanks. The tie and collared shirt are visible, so they will know I'm dressed up for it.

white button down collar l/s pima cotton shirt (french cuff ok if you want to appear "stylish")
charcoal gray 2 piece suit, 2 button coat (3 button....ok again, if you want to be a "girlie man")
striped tie
wingtips...hard leather upper, hard leather sole
no cologne
no facial hair
no jewelry (non-digital watch acceptable)
hair as short as possible w/o it being a buzzcut

then again, wear whatever you're comfortable in. I wore the above to an interview once...
turned out that was what they expected me to wear everyday

You don't need to wear a suit unless you're going for a management position...in fact, it's mostly recommended to wear a pair of dress pants with a nice dress shirt (no tie necessary).

You can go in over-dressed. I just went through a program where they talked about this and they recommend NOT to wear a suit to an interview unless you're going for a very high position in which you'd normally wear a suit for work.

Also, make sure your shoes match and look appropriate. (ie, decent dress shoes)

Wearing a suit for any business-job interview never hurts, though you can usually get by with a dress shirt and tie.

Once you have the job, and ties are not regular attire, consider keeping one all-purpose tie in your desk. If you get invited to a surprise executive meeting, you can quickly make yourself look slightly more professional.

I wear an outfit similar when I travel out of town for company business during colder months. I much prefer a sweater than a jacket. Go for it

Better be a really nice sweater. Like a v-neck meringue wool sweater would be the lowest form of acceptable to me. I wore a similar outfit to a network op today, people responded well.

I'm with MTM on this one, over-dressed. If he has a jacket/blazer, he better have a good overcoat to go with it. Which would then make it overkill over-dressed.

If you're wearing a tie, don't wear a sweater.

Depends on the job. We've ranged the gamut of attire for interviewees recently. From suits to flannel shirts. This is for a development position. Dress should be appropriate for the job. And in our case, it should be business casual.

I got the job! Start in May. I've wanted to work for TTC since I started my program and now I finally will! Making contacts like crazy for sure when I start working. The work is maintenance and inspection, which you wear construction boots for. So I'm not overly worried about not wearing a business suit.

WTG!!

I guess now I can share my Dmitiri Martin joke that would fit here.

A Life Vest protects you from drowning.

A Bullet-proof Vest protects you from getting shot.

A Sweater Vest protects you from pretty girls.

I wore a v-neck sweater today too. Because someone gave it to me for Christmas and I felt I should wear it at least once. I don't know what it's made out of, or what meringue wool is, because I'm not gay, but if it's anything like lemon meringue, it must be tasty.

Dressing for success is a skill, not a statement of cockaphilia.

And I must have been thinking about pie at the time, because I thought merino and typed meringue

Basically the interview was really only a few personal questions like naming strengths and weaknesses. At the end is where I think I sold myself. They asked if I had any questions and I asked a few. Then I said what I planned to say, which was that I'm 25, I'm older than most of the people in this co-op with more work experience and more maturity, I know what I want to do when I graduate, I know this is the company I want to work for, I'm not here to screw around and just play this off as some summer job, I'm looking at this as a potential career opportunity. They seemed pretty impressed judging by their facial expressions afterward.

I think that's what sold them on me. They originally were going to hire 5 of us but only liked 3 of us 19 people applied to begin with.

Wear the neatest clothing that is appropriate for the position you are applying for; employers want to see that you can attire appropriately for the position.

Edit: Ooops, too late. But sounds like you did a decent job on the interview.

Congrats!
