Default 'Terrorist attack' on Amsterdam-Detroit flight

Quote:
An incident on an airliner arriving in Detroit from the Netherlands was an attempted terrorist attack, a senior administration official told the BBC.

Sources say the incident was an attempt by a passenger to blow up the plane. The suspect was subdued and has been taken into custody for questioning.
The flight we use to go to the US. Great.

Assuming this is accurate: I hope the authorities conveniently lost the guy on the east side for an hour or so.

They should lock him up in a 6'x2' room for the rest of his life.

Reasons why it’s worth to be a PC gamer in 2010.

- The hardest thing about getting a Mac is telling your parents that you're gay.

- If I had the choice between being gay and owning a Mac, I would rather be gay, because if I owned a Mac I would be both gay and own a horrible computer.

- Imagine a giant cock flying towards your mouth, and there's nothing you can do about it. And you're like "Oh man, I'm gonna have to suck this thing", and you brace yourself to suck this giant cock. But then, at the last moment, it changes trajectory and hits you in the eye. You think to yourself "Well, at least I got that out of the way", but then the giant cock rears back and stabs your eye again, and again, and again. Eventually, this giant cock is penetrating your gray matter, and you begin to lose control of your motor skills. That's when the giant cock slaps you across the cheek, causing you to fall out of your chair. Unable to move and at your most vulnerable, the giant cock finally lodges itself in your anus, where it rests comfortably for 4, maybe 5 hours. That's what using Mac OSX is like.

Great now we arn't going to get to carry ANY liquids on to the flight instead of just not more than an absurdly small amount. Soon everyone will have to be put in straightjackets and strapped to standing up boards. Airlines will love it because they can add more "seats." First class will be you get to be handcuffed and foot to a very nice chair.

Did you guys read the rest of this story? Despite the danger of the situation, what actually transpired is absolutely hilarious!

The news reports are listing that his attempt to detonate his home-made bomb (which was a combination of both powder and liquid explosives) failed.. instead, he caught fire, started to smoke and the explosives strapped to his legs started popping like firecrackers.

Apparently he was subdued and had his pants smoldered off, both legs were badly burned and was blackened from the smoke.

I can't help but get the visual of some stupid idiot standing there, blackened with soot, smoke coming from his skin, his pants blown off and badly burned.

Allah was with him.

He's 23, so if he stays in full sentence he gets out at 43. Way too light for intending to kill 150(??)people. And he'll be young enough to try it again.

I bet they'll find a way to hold him longer if he's still dangerous, but even so, he'd be immediately deported and would have a hard time getting on a flight ever again. By then, they'll probably stick a chip in his ass and electronically watch him like a hawk anyways.

Everyone onboard is very lucky the explosive failed. No doubt the concotion was tested before carrying out the act.

Just goes to show, even with all the safe guards there are apparently still large enough gaps for determined homocidal maniacs to get through.

Amsterdam's a city mate, Netherlands is the country but to my knowledge, no they don't have a problem. Switzerland (minaret ban) and Denmark (cartoons) are the two main attractors for Islamic hatred, it's just coincidence that Schipol is a huge airport and a main hub for intercontinental flights.

And the solution to keep people from trying to light up exploding liquids is simple: the USA gets TFO of iraq/afganistan. The extremists can no longer finish their speeches referencing "the USA occupation": No Problem solved!

That is what I thought was bizarre about the incident... Schipol generally have pretty good security. They re-scan all people making connections at the gate so this guy must have gone through security twice without it being picked up.

I don't know why you've been trying so desperately to bring P&R stuff to OT lately, but could you give it a rest please?

Because that's the source of this attempted attack and the source of future attacks that will be threaded about in this board. Or is this incident about some crazy dude trying to kill people just because he went bonkers?

Stupidity like this, is that the way the new reality is going to be? Oh wait, it already is. Is the world right now become some sort of National Lampoon version of itself? "The world is a dangerous place". Bs. Just dont give people reasons to be pissed at you, first step. That helps a lot, not straightjackets or coffins for passengers in all flights.

It is about the incident itself, not anyone's opinions of American foreign policy. If you want to discuss that, then please by all means start a thread on it in P&R, but if you're going to post in OT then please don't bring politics or religion into it.
