Default Why do some people keep their interior cars looking like a storage box?

You know how it is when your about to ride somewhere with a buddy and when you open the passenger door to get it, theres junk all over the seat and floor. You cant get in because your buddy has to either move the junk into the backseat where theres more junk or throw in the trunk.

So my weekend question for you guys is why do people keep crap all in their cars?

I find it disgusting. I keep my cars clean enough to eat off the floor and seats, and I couldn't imagine it any other way. I don't know how people can stand it.

Nothing but clean interiors with nothing in them for me!

Now that I dont have a garage anymore to keep things clean, everytime we get in the cars or truck, something is tracked into it. :/ Kinda pisses me off, but I feel like this myself. However couldnt stand wiping feet, etc everytime getting in the car or whatever, and then it didnt really matter anyway.

So, Ive grown a little lazy on the cleaning side because of this. I so very much wish I had a garage again, so I could properly keep things clean.

I try my damnedest to achieve that, but it's nearly impossible during the Colorado winters. Too much snow, dirt and salt that gets tracked inside. Oh well, Weathertech Floorliners ftw!

That would be my only exception as well. It's unrealistic to vaccuum and clean the carpet every single day. There may be some salt and debris in the footwell area, but otherwise everything is spotless.

In the summer I will put effort into keeping my truck cleanish.

In the winter I don't bother. Not that I keep trash in it, but I keep stuff that I may need for work and extra clothing like gloves, a tuque, extra boots. Also winter stuff like snow brush/scraper, a small shovel in the cab next to me. Northern Ontario winter, always be prepared! I couldn't be bothered to clean the interior though in the winter. The floor and doors are just splattered with snow/mud/ice/salt.

*shudders*

Even in the winter time I couldnt let the interior of my car get like that. We obviously dont get as much snow in the US as you guys but snow and rain on the inside of the doors and on the floor

Absolutely. The GrandAm looks like it rolled off the showroom floor yesterday on the inside, I just don't have a picture of it handy.

I'm guilty of this, except its usually the cargo area i keep a mess. The only thing you will usually find on my passenger seat is maybe my GPS accessories, my cell phone car charger, a few CDs, or a receipt from a recent gas purchase.

My wife keeps crap in her SUV. Always an extra pair of shoes, hair brush, and cd's rolling around. She also never fills it up with gas, $10 here, $20 there. Everytime I get in it the fuel gauge is at a quarter or less. It drives me crazy to the point I avoid getting in it.

I really think ithas to do with her not liking her current vehicle. Before she had an Accord that she kept very clean.

hey ... thats me

i give my car a good cleaning once every month or two, inbetween ... i use the passengers side foot area as a large storage recepticle.

aside from that i have my 2 blankies and a pillow in the backseat.

why, well i not an incremental cleaner. if it does get too bad, when im rolling the trash cans down the driveway ill stop by and empty the car into a trash can.

I keep my car clean because if I leave anything that looks halfway valuable (or could be covering anything valuable, even an empty CD case) I'd wake up to a busted window the next morning. It's not that my neighborhood is unsafe but living inside 4 blocks of apartment complexes that's just how it is.

I'm weird like that, hardly ever clean the outside but keep the inside almost spotless. I stop by the self-serve car washes about 2-3 times a week to clean and out and vacuum the interior, but I only wash the out side of about once a year. You'll get dirty as hell if you lean against my truck but can eat off the floormats.

Because car interiors don't offer convenient storage space for people to use for their everyday items. I mean, how long have we had cell phones and portable MP3 players? And how many cars offer universal storage/charging/connection for them?

And what uber said.

And GIBRO.
