very amusing article here - http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,7...-in-2009/News/ it's basically a slideshow with pictures and comments so i'll repost them here... 1. ![]() Modern Warfare 2 is released without dedicated servers or mod support but with a questionable anti cheat system. Nevertheless the gaming is selling surprisingly well as calls to boycott the game haven’t been followed. 2. ![]() Starcraft 2: Actually the beta was scheduled for summer 2009 but had been delayed to February in the end. The fans had been more than just angry. 3. ![]() Starcraft 2 again: No LAN mode like in Diablo 3. The multiplayer community is not amused. 4. ![]() Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PC): Just a bitter pill to swallow. More than a year after the game hit the consoles, it comes to the PC. The port is coming with a 30 fps limit, a screwed up mouse/keyboard control and lame console graphics. 5. ![]() Ghostbusters: The Video Game: In Europe the release of the PC version was delayed for about six months and thus doesn’t really interest any European PC gamers anymore when it finally hits the market. 6. ![]() Empire: Total War: the game was released in March and had to be activated via Steam. Many old school gamers didn’t like this kind of forced copy protection. 7. ![]() Bioshock 2: Another delay. At first the game was supposed to come in Fall 2009 but has been rescheduled to February 2010. The fans were disappointed. 8. ![]() Diablo 3: The WoW like look is getting on many gamers’ nerves. One of the moments that sucked in 2009 was when Blizzard announced that the graphics syle couldn’t be changed anymore 9. ![]() Alan Wake: Initially announced for the PC, too, but the game became an Xbox 360 exclusive. Really bitter since Remedy had created the popular Max Payne series and many gamers expect Alan Wake to become just as popular 10. ![]() ArmA 2: First of all the game was released at different times in different countries. The first versions that hit the markets were infected with a dumb A.I., clipping distortions and a bad collision routine. Continuous patching solves many of the problems, but people who bought the game right on its release were really pissed – and had the right to be 11. ![]() Assassin’s Creed 2: While the console gamers can play the game since November, the PC owners have to wait until March 2010. Let’s hope that patience pays off this time. continued in the next post...

12. ![]() Borderlands: Price drop in Europe, but only for a short time. People who bought the game at its launch might be a little pissed off about the fact that the game was sold for a dumping so soon. 13. ![]() Operation Flashpoint 2: Many gamers had very high expectations in this game, but the new Flashpoint couldn’t live up to them. And it didn’t have dedicated servers. 14. ![]() Max Payne 3: Initially it had been a possible 2009 blockbuster, but Max is getting a little older since we won’t see the game until August 2010 at the earliest 15. ![]() Aliens vs. Predator: A local phenomenon since the game won’t hit the markets in Germany and gets problems in Australia because of the high level of violence. 16. ![]() Battlefield 1943: The game had been released to the consoles in June, but even now there hasn’t even been a release date set for the PC. At least Pc gamers were promised to be compensated with DirectX 10 effects – well, we will see. 17. ![]() Console exclusive games like Beatles Rock Band: Why those games are said to be impossible to realize in the PC is beyond out knowledge. 18. ![]() Console price cuts for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii: Bitter for every PC gamer because it increases the market share of the consoles and thus benefits cross platform developments or console exclusives. PC only is threatened with extinction. 19. ![]() Need for Speed: Shift on Ati graphics cards: Three months after the game was released, a patch delivered acceptable framerates on Radeon graphics cards. Before that happened gamers had to deal with lagged gameplay and conspiracy theories between Ati and Nvidia. 20. ![]() Resident Evil 5: a good example of how NOT to port console controls to the PC. Even high-end graphics can’t compensate a screwed up control system. 21. ![]() Fermi delay to 2010: This doesn’t just constrain a healthful market competition, but also slows down the transition to DirectX 11 in game development. 22. ![]() Borderlands DLC: A patch that writes Securom into the exe file and sets a maximum limit of installations after the original game came without the unpopular copy protection. This can only make things worse. continued in the next post again...

23. ![]() Dirt 2: The game gets the award for the most annoying menus – a flashy presentation might be nice but must not be realized this way. it hardly seems like a comprehensive list. off the top of my head, i can think of the l4d2 announcement and the batman antialiasing lockout issue that also pissed off pc gamers. what else am i forgetting? and how many of these pissed you guys off? don't be shy... remember, the more things that you get pissed off about, the truer a pc gamer you are . in fact, if you don't agree with a majority of this list, you're probably a consoletard who is killing pc gaming ![]()

#19 is a pretty good one too, but since I don't currently own any high end hardware I was not personally affected by it. Tbh, the rest of the list feels pretty silly. |

honestly though the only things that pissed me off this year: 1. Games for windows live making me start over in batman arkham asylum. Why the **** cant I backup my saved game for a reformat? Cant do that as it results in a corrupt save. 2. Starcraft 2 No LAN support. Why the **** not????? I only play rts games either in single player or at lan parties. guess there must be an option for private internet games... 3. Dirt 2's menu system. So ****ing annoying. I just want to race not spend 10 minutes navigating a menu system. As far as that article and most of the items being delay related, honestly i cant complain here I have a huge backlog of games to play still ![]()

They list Ghostbusters, yet completely fail to mention its lack of co-op that pissed of PC gamers, instead mentioning something totally different that wasn't near as big of a factor. FAIL. ![]()

Good points there, alot of pissed of PC gamers. I think the one that tops the list is CoDMW2 with no dedicated servers. Like wtf were they thinking?

You can actually do that, but depending on the title, they will not work if you don't also backup the xlive folder. |

Licensed ip for games = sucks. I dont give a f*** how awesome the developers make the game, it's still licensed IP crap to me, i.e. Batman , Ghostbusters, and such. Im not a fan of the original IP, not a fan of the licensed IP game either. Big fail there. ![]()

a bit bizzare list. Some petite details like online activation in Empire and bugs in Arma 2 are named, but no mention of MS closing down Ensemble and ACES? Heck...GFWL in DoW2 pissed me off more than DRM in Empire. and 360 stealing Fez from us ![]()

Maybe. I just dont care about this old comic book franchise, and some loser in a dark tight suit that goes out at night in a funny looking car.

Just because you don't care about the subject matter does not support your theory that all games based on licensed IPs suck. |

A lot of them are pretty whiney, but it is the internet. People will complain about anything. I agree with a few, like L4D2 and Batman should have been in there like you mentioned. |

How did they compile that list of 23? Why did they not even so much as mention the L4D2 boycott? That was a significant event as it was one of the biggest games of 2009. Why not add 2 more and make the list an even 25? That list suckd anyways.

Seriously, who the hell even plays on lan these days? Even if I’m at a friends house, and they have a router, first thing I need is access to internet. If you have the game, and you are hosting a game on a closed network, it will follow LAN style rules. Hacks for War3 already do this (except it’s kinda like hamachi) You must be way behind the times if you only play RTS for single player and at LAN parties (who even has LAN parties these days without internet access?)
