It’s really beginning to annoy me now. I wear the same shoes all day because of work (I have to be at a cubicle all the time and often times have to walk around) So it’s starting to smell when I take them off when I come home (like really smell) to the point where I have to go through 1 pair of socks a day (or more than one pair) And taking off my socks don’t work sometimes, I have to go to the washroom and wash my feet off. That only subdues the smell. The shoes themselves are starting to smell, and I’m thinking of just throwing them away (they were quite expensive shoes) and buying new ones... I’ve been wearing them for 2 years or so. I mean people tell me they’ve worn the same shoes for 3-4 years and just had the sole replaced... WTF? wtf am I doing wrong? I mean I wash my feet with soap daily and it’s still rancid smell. It’s recently been like this because of the Canadian weather. The cold weather cools my feet, and once I get into a building, I guess my feet warm up and start sweating, and when I leave a building again, the sweat gets congealed at the bottom. GF definitely isn’t liking it (although she doesn’t say anything but glares at my feet sometimes) I try to mask it with some cologne but it’s kinda silly. Do odour eaters really work? Should I be investing in some now?

i) change your shoes ii) start wearing socks made out of synthetic materials instead of cotton/wool. the really thin ones. they don't let bacteria breed as easily. |

Synthetic materials tend not to absorb and distribute the sweat from your feet as well. Can some times lead to more of a smell depending on the shoes ability to absorb, distribute and evaporate the sweat by them selves. But it is definitely worth a shot considering how cheap a solution it is to try out.

And you're supposed to be changing your socks every day anyway. But yes, try some foot powder with antifungal attributes.

Can you wear slip on shoes? If you can then take off when you're sitting down. Maybe your feet won't sweat as much. |

Or get some sort of open shoes for your to wear while at work. If you're indoors anyway then there's no need to wear stuffy shoes all day and sweating like a pig.

I have to use foot powder as my feet sweat bad. It might be something as simple as that for you. Also depends on if dead skin is building up on your feet. If you can, go to a foot doctor and have them take a look. If fungal they can tell you what to do otherwise try the foot powder. |

Change shoes every 4-6 months. Change socks everyday for ffs. Also when you go home from work, immediately remove socks and wash your feet with soap. If your feet sweat a lot, its best to take off shoes (if you are in the cubicle, earlier in the morning when you are fresh). Also keep your shoes well ventilated when you take them off (normally you can do that by keeping them in the balcony under shade over weekends). But wearing the same shoes for 2 years, wtf. Who does that ![]() |

There are just some pairs of shoes that stink. I had this one pair that when I wore them they stank badly for some reason and I don't have any food odor problems at all. And yes, you're supposed to change your socks daily anyway.

Well, I saw an episode of Doctor Oz and he recommended lemon juice foot bath. Let your feet sit in lemon juice for 30 minutes, do this for 3 days straight and you should be good for a month. Also, wear shoes made of natural materiels. Leather only, NO VINYL!!! Finally, get Merino wool socks. They are natural, warm and actually resist ordor and bacteria, unlike other wools... Good luck! Start taking a Zinc supplement. Its supposed to help with foot odor. (like if you are deficient of Zinc, your feet stink)

You need new shoes that lets more air in. Also, you probably already have some kind of fungus growing on your feet so you have to treat that before getting a new pair of shoes. |

who wears shoes for 6 mths? I'm not spending 500+ dollars on a pair of dress shoes to throw them away 6 mths later. I wear dress shoes everyday even during winter for 12- 15 hrs a day. For everyday use I have 2 identical pairs that I alternate every other day. Last edited by nrs421 : Dec 13, 2009 at 11:37 AM. |

Antifungal sounds like a good idea, and as you may have guessed it's all because of the sweat. If you can keep your feet from sweating you win, though the smell will remain in your shoes for a while, and if the smell is really that bad it's probably a fungal infection, so keeping your feet dry will keep it from growing. Changing socks every day will help.... though I thought this was given ![]() Odor eaters probably work, but they're only for in-shoe use when you're not wearing them... i.e. they'll make your shoes smell better but your feet will still stink. Oh and I suppose wool or synthetic socks would help, perhaps even athletic socks. They're usually designed to wick away moisture, so it will keep your feet dryer (less smell and less fungus) though it may not help your shoes at all.

You have to throw the shoes away. Wear thick sport socks from now on only , and was your feet a couple of times a day with the coldest water you can find . Not just splash some cold water on them, but make your feet numb . It will kill the bacteria . Couple of days and you're done. It's the only way edit* wait what ?! You do multiple days with a pair of socks !? Dude ... ![]() Last edited by g-a-m-e : Dec 13, 2009 at 02:48 PM. |

Cold water doesn't kill bacteria..... unless the water is sub freezing in which case disturbing it would make it turn to ice. Hot water could work, but there's no reason to go scalding your feet several times a day. Washing them will help, I won't doubt that, and even taking off your shoes for a bit and letting the feet air out would too, but it's not because it kills bacteria.

Try taking some zinc supplements for a month or so and see if that helps with the foot odor.

You probably need some sort of anti fungal washing solution/cream if regular soap and water doesn't cut it. After you get the stink off your feet, look at ways of keeping it off. If your problem is sweaty feet, there are antiperspirants available through prescription. Drysol comes to mind. Socks impregnated with silver can also help prevent odor - as silver has natural antimicrobial properties.
