Default Eve Online Dominion update

I just started playing Eve Online a few weeks back fully expecting to be unimpressed because the game dates all the way back to 2003. I happily admit I was wrong, the game looks very good even now. Of course, this game gets regular graphics updates to improve the visual quality of the engine, but I honestly hadn't realized just how far Eve has come. It's now using a Dx10 engine and looks every bit as good as X3 The Reunion and almost as good as Terran Conflict.

Well, it's getting another huge face lift right now. The Dominion update is replacing all the planets and star backdrops with new highly detailed textures that will make the planets look more realistic. Also, there's apparently plans to go even further with the graphics according to a good interview I read this morning : http://frontpage.mmozone.nl/content/view/1835/165

So this game is really growing up with the times. I'm impressed and enjoying myself quite a bit with it.

Heres a taste of where the current graphics are at before the Dominion update:

That particular boat is great for PvE, but it's no PvP boat. Myrmadon is the preference there, a nice Battlecruiser with quicker turret reaction times. The thing I really like about the Hyperion for PvE though, is it tanks both armor AND shields together nicely. Great for level 4 missions.

Fail.
EVE is what you make of it.
If anything, it's more open than other MMOs...

Did you find a decent corp to join? Merchant Knights of Eve has regular weekly events that are a blast to participate in.

Don't you be talking sweet things to me, ya hear!!!
To stop myself from going back to EVE like a boomerang, I had to sell entire account last year.

Well, the mining part was part of it, but that kind of grinding is common to any MMO you play. At least this time I'm not chopping trees or swing yet another bloody pick axe. But on the other stuff, shooting the rats wasn't a random affair like you make it out to be, it was more structured patrols to protect miners. And we don't gate camp, we bust gate campers, that was the other part of it

The Merchant Knights of Eve are a benevolent corporation with community in mind. Gate campers are bad for commerce, so we pod them on site.

carebear POWAARRRRRR

i wonder how often you actually bust gate camps though, because you need a group of people to do that. when i was in corps, people pretended to be very active corps while they actually werent at all and there was barely any cooperation.

I love this game and what they are doing with it but after playing it for 6 months without a good corp it became very slow I mainly did solo lvl 3 - 4 missions in an Amarr BS but after I lost 2 Apocalypse's in a row from pesky flys with warp jammers I became too afraid to leave the station.

EvE is one of the only mmo games that I have played so far that made me get hyped up on adrenaline though when you get blown up and lose over 200 mil worth of ships and items and don't have a corp to support you it really really sucks.

As for the update patch I wonder how the mechanics work for taking and holding planets if done right it could really move things towards more fleet combat.

I was working my way up to use a marauder by the time my account time ran out I was just finished BS rank 5, I can already use stealth bombers but because I have never been in a good corp so there was never a need to use such a ship but my anathema covert ops was handy in tracking down deadspace complexes that is if the first 20 finds where not wormholes.

Love the new Dominion stuff! Planets are very sweet looking now. Also, the browser kicks butt as well, I'm typing this from inside the game right now

Our corp is pretty active. And we're working on proper team tactics. In fact, we do quite a bit of ship sparring for training as well. The only ones who whine about carebears are the ones who alt-trick noobs into attacking them so they can jump in with their main sitting next belt over because that's how they get their jollies. Some of us are more community minded then that.

Oh man, I've been on and off with EVE more than any other MMO. I've slowly made my way into kicking ass with Gallente Cruisers and Gallente Interceptors. I think I was working with Drone Momma V (name for my Vexor, fifth ship) and Toe Jam III (name for my Taranis, third ship). The Taranis is just way too expensive to lose anymore of, so when I get back I'll be running the Vexor, because I can usually buy and outfit one of those for near nothing unless I lose my T2 stuff.

My buddy asked me a couple weeks ago if I would go back to it with him. We played during my last stint together and he was like 9 days away from the top ORE Mining ship when his account cancelled. I told him maybe next semester of college, since I'll only be teaching early evening and not late evening like this semester.

Everyone have fun for me until I get back. I seriously miss my Taranis.
