Default Ie 9

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/353425/i...erformance-gap

Quote:
Microsoft has unveiled the first details of Internet Explorer 9, promising that it will close the performance gap on rival browsers.

Although Microsoft admitted it only started working on IE9 three weeks ago, the company still felt confident enough to share details of the next-generation browser with attendees at its Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles.

The major newcomer is a revamped rendering engine that will tap the power of the PC's graphics card to accelerate text and graphics performance.

"We’re changing IE to use the DirectX family of Windows APIs to enable many advances for web developers," Internet Explorer's general manager, Dean Hachamovitch, explains on the Internet Explorer blog.

"The starting point is moving all graphics and text rendering from the CPU to the graphics card using Direct2D and DirectWrite. Graphics hardware acceleration means that rich, graphically intensive sites can render faster while using less CPU."
What? They only started working on it 3 weeks ago?

Everyone was on vacation since the last release?

interesting that they are looking at using DX API for browser use,.. how long before Opera/Mozilla whine about how unfair it will be that MS can leverage it's own code.. (and Im a HUGE Opera fan .. have been since Opera used to fit on a floppy disk )

Why can't Opera / Mozilla use the DirectX SDK to improve their browsers as well?

Well, yes, if they do that then they deserve to have their computers removed and sent to work on a sheep farm in New Zealand for being utter idiots.

Seriously, it would be like complaining that MS could use Win32 functions to make software.. zomg! the advantage!

Not that I doubt that would stop Opera, bunch of whiney good for nothing... *wanders off grumbling*

They should, heck all software should be taking advantage of this stuff when they can, certainly now that DirectWrite/Direct2D are out and about to make life that much easier (instead of having to wrangle D3D to do things).

I can't wait.

To never use it if at all possible, like every other IE prior.
