Default Cat hanging around my house

So the other day this cat starts hanging around our house. It's really strange because it will pop out of nowhere. I went to go driving and all of a sudden it leaps out from under my car. My dad found out about it and decided to feed it, which I told him not do, but he did anyway. Now it won't leave. It hangs out around my front porch and never leaves. I'm pretty sure it used to be an indoor cat because whenever we approach our front door it sees us and wants to be let in.

What do you all do to get rid of random furry animals hanging around your homes?

Ask your neighbours if they lost a cat?

Recently our neighbors cat started hanging out on our balcony. At first I didn't mind but when it started to poop on my balcony I told the neighbors to put something up to keep the cat away. I'll be damned if I'm going to clean poop after another persons animal....

Take a picture of it and list it as free cat in the pets section.

Well it's still hanging around. Most of the time it sits on the hood of our pickup or when it sees one of us leaving it makes a B-line for the door. I wonder if it can be trained to fend of raccoons, possums, and the like.

Training cats = maybe.
Training cats to fight other animals = maybe.
Training cats to win against racoons = teh noes.

I think you've confused cats for german shepherds.

If it is a Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest cat, it could probably take on a raccoon easily enough. My parents had the latter... huge cat. Bigger than a lot of small dogs.

Raccoons have bigger, sharper claws and fangs, are more agile, and hunt cooperatively. They've been known to shred medium sized dogs. Regardless, if the cat feels like it's threatened, he'll turn tail and run. Not exactly a good guard dog

Maine Coon?

I've seen a Maine Coon go toe to toe with me. I was upstate and my grandfathers cat roams around.. I was walking around the place and the cat started hissing at me. I just ignored it, kept walking, as I got closer it went nuts.

Got some nasty scratches that day.

Cats are a hell of a lot more dangerous in a fight than most dogs... fighting breeds excepted, of course.

Cats decide where they want to be/stay/live. Often enough it ain't makes much of a difference if you feed em or not. One thing i apprecciate about cats is that they can't be bribed. They like/accept you or they don't. There's not much to do about that.

As for the topic, i'd ask around if he/she belongs to someone. If not, then you'd take her to a shelter, if you don't want to have him/her hanging around your house. I don't see a problem there.

And well, for the fight-thing, cats will run if they can, but don't ever get a cat in a situation where fight is the only option. If so, you'll better have some medic nearby. They are furious to say at least. I've seen some fights between cats and dogs, and i tell you, most of the time there where wimpering dogs (no matter what size they are) bleeding out of several wounds.

Take a water gun and fill it with tabasco sauce mixed with water, and squirt the cat when it's around. Also throw some cayenne pepper in the areas the cat hangs out. It should send the message to go away.

And stop feeding it!
