Actually it is released. The fixes are mostly multimedia crap and CCC bugs.On first sight is really not worth installing but as always there are hidden bugs solved not listed.

Am I missing something? I've looked all over game.amd.com and I can not find ANY links for an AVIVO Video Converter for Windows 7. The only link I find is for Catalyst 9.6 AVIVO Video Converter and it doesn't install properly on Windows 7. It just say "All Components up to date already". So whats up with the false advertising in their release notes?

Quote:
ATI Video encoder update – support for Windows 7

* ATI Catalyst™ 9.7 introduces support for the ATI Video converter under Windows 7 32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit
* Using ATI Stream technology, owners of ATI Radeon™ HD 4800 Series and ATI Radeon™ HD 4600 Series of graphics cards can take advantage of this video conversion tool (found in ATI Catalyst™ Control Center Basic View) to achieve substantial performance improvements when transcoding video files
I of course tried basic and there is no drop down for the video converter after a full install of the Windows 7 9.7 Cat Drivers.

This driver still has the Company of Heroes profile that crashes in Windows 7.

You mean that OS that is on life support at it's own manufacturer? The one that mainstream support ended on last year? What about those poor, poor Windows 95 users who need their fix too? Ever think about their needs?

Catalyst™ 9.7 brings performance benefits in several cases where framerates are CPUlimited.
Some measured examples are:
􀁺 Crysis - performance at very high quality preset increases by up to 8% on HD4800 series
products
􀁺 Lost Planet Colonies - performance increases by 7-11% when 8x Anti-Aliasing is used on
the HD4800 series products
Oh please, performance improvements in old friggin games that are rarely played, or never were. This is the life story of 4800 series Catalyst drivers. What's next months bonus, improvements in Tetris?

They test lots of games and just give some noticable improvements for the release notes. They do NOT specifically target specific games for such improvements. Sheesh there is always someone who doesn't understand this. The only exceptions would be bugs introduced that affect performance in a particular game which are then fixed later on. You should be glad they are improving their driver on CPU limited games. Then maybe the people who play things like FSX will stop complaining that its slower in clouds etc.

I know the XP drivers aren't out yet, but I went ahead and stickied this anyway. I added the game.amd.com link to the OP also, if it isn't working right let me know and I'll fix it up.

Now to download them!

Resident Evil 5 Benchmark Version:
Performance in Area 3 is still suffer below 20fps. This with DX10 and AA.

They have to fix this before the game get officially release.

Somehow they managed to make their driver interface ****tier than it already was. Well done ATI.

I wish they would just copy Nvidia and be done with it.

Vista sucked when it first shipped but SP1 fixed all the bugs and made it a rock solid OS. SP2 had made Vista even better, my Vista Ultimate x64 installation kicks XP's ass when it comes to stability.

I have the same issue and want that problem fixed along with the texture flickering. The fixed benchmark also has major texture flickering.

Just like you I hope they fix it before the game ships because playing that game in DirectX10 is gonna be awesome.

you have a near 4ghz core2quad & are waiting to downconvert on the gpu?

there are multiple apps already that can utilize stream instead of ati's converter

but i have yet to see ANY decent video converter (stream or cuda) for anything outside the cpu, since i have megui setup with my own preset... controls & quality > speed

yup, that one, that had no apparent issues with hardware and worked with whatever game it was fed, and didn't need DX10 that no dev seems to have gotten hooked on

In other words...you can't afford either Vista or Windows 7.
Why try to cover it up with FUD about XP being superior?

Great drivers. My games fly in DX9 and DX10 as well.

With Cat 9.7 Far Cry 2 has reached an all-time high:

1920x1200, DX10, Ultra, 16xAF, 8xAA: min 46 - avg 67.5 - max 109 fps

my performance in gta4 is up as well, kudos to ATI

however, the GUI is indeed a step backward

can we users force ATI to stop releasing stupid control panels? CCC was and still is uglier than the old CP, and then this new CCC is even uglier than that

9.7 totally hoses Lord of the Rings Online (dx10 mode). If you Alt-Tab out of the game and back in, the layers come in in the wrong order, or it screws up the rendering of the control overlay.

The topmost visible layer actually doesn't change much. If you hit f-12 to hide the control overlay, then you can actually move around, etc, but there's no buttons to push, etc.

Back to 9.6.
