Default Pirate Galaxy lagging like hell (under Vista)

So i tried the game a few days ago. Seemed to be a fun lil timewaster. Then it locked up completely. Wouldn't start again no matter what i tried. Had to restart computer to get it working again.

It eats up ram like there's no tomorrow. I've searched the net for similar problems and solutions. Well, to put it short, lots of problems and just a few wacky solutions.

Seems to me that it's a thing with Vista and Java. I tried admin-mode and i also tried xp-comp.-mode, both did near to nothing. Game runs for a few moments just fine and then begins to stutter and lagging. It seems to be just fine, but you can notice somethings wrong when you can't shoot nor get back to orbit.

Sooo, some of you guys playing this and maybe seen similar problems?

I'd apprecciate some input about this issues.

I'm trying to register but every name I pick is already taken.

EDIT: Finally got in. Played around for a bit, and had no issues. Of course I'm using WinXP so I guess the solution is to upgrade to it.

I'll play for an extended period of time when I'm off of work, and not eating into my lunch hour. The game looks interesting.

I've got it running by now. Don't know if it was just the servers causing the lag. Well, you'll never know.

The game itself is fun so far, sometimes a bit unforgiving, when you die you'll get portet back to the first spacedock which can be a pain cause the travelling takes some time. Also getting your energy filled up gets tideous later on because better weapons draining your energy faster than you can say "oops" which caused one or two (well...i that was a lie, it was more than two) deaths. No energy = no shield + no weapon + no afterburner to escape = death. But as a free to play game it's okay, i'd say.

Searching for missing parts is fun and the quests are mostly fun too. No die-hard grinding. You can form squads to ease the quests quiet a bit and i've seen worse games graphicwise.

I played for a bit last night. I got turned off by the energy collection aspect, and the inability to keep the ship stationary (took a while to learn to click a spot... but then it started feeling like Space Siege, which gets old quick).

It's a decent timewaster, but I also recently installed Dungeon Runners; I think I'll be playing that instead.

You're right. But Dungeon Runners, well, i played it for a while, what turned me off the most was the missing balance between free players and paying players itemwise. Was fun for a short time, but after that i got bored really fast. Have fun there anyway

I played Hellgate London for a long while, but inconsistently. I see Dungeon Runners as being a similar game... Something to play when you just feel like sitting back and killing hordes of baddies.

HGL was much better though. Too bad they killed it (probably because there wasn't enough difference between the paying members and non-paying ones... heh).
