Also it's not holding my resolution settings, everytime I start up it's back to default. I think it might be something to do with where it's trying to place it's config and savegame folder. Not sure where that was in Vista but something might have changed that's giving it a hard time. Although I can't think of any change to the user directory that would cause this. And COD 4 runs great for me in Win 7.

Everything else runs spectacularly. I'm about to DL Steam so I can try NBA2k9 and the Half Life's.
Have you tried running it as administrator to see if it's a file permission problem? If I remember correctly, COD4 stores its files withing the program folder (eg. C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4\profiles) and it may be in the same general structure. So, you may have to go to that profiles folder, and set its permissions to be read and write for your User (Users/Lupine). Then your settings should stick.

I did try it as admin, and installed it as admin too. I'll try re-enabling UAC, I turned it off first thing .

Ok, I'm going to re-enable UAC, and reinstall the game and look at the premissions in these folders. Thanks for the help guys!

I deleted the hkcu\software\microsoft\media player registry key and also deleted the application data files associated with media player, but the library on my desktop didn't show up in windows media player on my laptop until I created a new user profile.

I needed to anyway, since my user name was the same on both machines.. but I just thought I'd throw a heads up out there.
I found out how to bring it back.. I don't know why I didn't notice this before..

If you right-click the left pane in WMP and choose "customize navigation pane" the thing at the top is a drop-down list and it lets you choose "other libraries" and check off the ones that you want to appear.. I feel kind of stupid now lol

Fixed! Apparently COD5 creates the player directory in the users\me\appdata\local\activision directory instead of the program directory like COD4 does.

For some reason setup wasn't creating a profile there, I checked permissions and everything was good... still don't know why it doesn't do it but I manually added the correct file structure and a profile folder along with an active.txt file (basically just like COD4 except in a different spot). Runs fine now, and the lines around the water bug is gone too! Fckin-A right! I dunno if that's because of the newer ATi drivers or something to do with W7 but I love it. That's two bugs fixed in games I play alot so far (this one and the FC2 stutter).

Wow it's ****ing awesome. I don't even want to boot into windows vista anymore. I didn't expect such quality. Also I'm glad I have x-fi extreme music instead of the fake x-fi like above. Installed without an issue.

Wish i knew it was fake at the time . Truth be known though i've noticed no worse quality than my xtreme music which had HORRIBLE crackling issues... Sound is great with this and yes i know about the HW acceleration thing

Thing is it uses the old chip and not the x-fi one. Hence the drive incompability.

That's true.
So I ran the repair option in Windows 7...it did a pretty decent job, but i lost couple of recent pieces of software I installed along with Kaspersky.
I wonder if Vista and Windows 7 keep a virutal image of the drive for repair purposes, since those two programs didn't have any installers. It was media player classic and VNC Viewer 64bit binary...which was in a zipped format.

Dump that Kaspersky nonsense and use Eset, it works flawlessly in Win7.

I hope the final hits way before Q4 or 2010, I can't wait that long. Bye bye Vista for me.

Avira works great in W7 too, that's what I've been using the past couple of days.

i've had it installed all of a few minutes, and i love it

i love the desktop themes with the background pictures, no more manually changing the background when i'm bored! i really like the improved task manager, seems very bright compared to vista, and the new startup screen is just miles better, ah well, its very pretty, guess i should focus on how the thing works....

I'd keep the send feedback on there, and hell, really use it! I know I do, I'd imagine MS can use all the help they can get finding problems with the beta.

Easy to do

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\

look for FeedbackToolEnabled and change it to 0 (default is 3 if you want to get it back)

If the key is not there, create a new DWORD 32bit. You have to logoff and back to see the change.

Or if you are lazy make a .reg file out of this
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"FeedbackToolEnabled"=dword:00000000
