Drivers are dated 08/08/05 ![]() First of these are BEAT's, as such they may have some bugs, although I've played some games and they run fine, talk about them in this thread please. ![]() Choose 'custom' when installing http://rapidshare.com/files/138655128/Catalyst_8.54.rar 120 megs The full package, for those having install problems with the small package, remember chose 'custom' install and select only CCC and display driver. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U7USVHPY Last edited by rflair : Aug 21, 2008 at 08:29 AM. |

Thanks for taking the time to upload these rflair. I put the last two parts on for download now, and i'll get to have a play around later on. Will post back if I noticed anything interesting. These have a newer OpenGL driver too right? |

The OpenGL and D3D are newer. It appears these are Vista 32 and 64 bit ONLY! Sorry to XP people. Last edited by rflair : Aug 6, 2008 at 08:16 PM. |

This driver is missing a setting in the INF file for 48xx cards in regards to AA so its not going to let you enable AA correctly HKR, "UMD",AntiAliasMapping_SET, %REG_SZ%, "0(0:0,1:0) 2(0:2,1:2) 4(0:4,1:4) 8(0:8,1:8,2:16)" There may be other errors so use at your own risk.

Where exactly in the INF do you place that string Spyre? Not worth testing without AA. |

AA is working in everything I tried, GRID, TF2, NFS:MW, Titan Quest and 3Dmark06. Will try some other games but so far so good, very good driver. Powerplay seems to be working also, though I don't have the gear to test it, but my card seems to idle about 2c less then before. Edit, I now tried every AA mode ATI offers and they all work on the 4800 series, this is under Vista x64. Last edited by rflair : Aug 7, 2008 at 06:41 AM. |

You have to put it in the 7xx_software part of the inf (or whatever its called, I dont remember the exact name since I am at work) Should be easy enough to figure out. I should mention I was only checking the Vista X64 driver inf since thats what OS I use. The 32bit one may be ok.

Thanks for sharing, rflair. I've installed the 8.54 beta driver. Installation was trouble-free. I've added the missing AA line in the .ini before. I've checked out CoJ DX10, Crysis DX10 and Vantage so far. Performance wise the 8.54 driver is in CoJ DX10 as fast as Cat 8.7 and up to 10% faster in Crysis and Vantage. And the best of all: the flashing white dots in Crysis DX10 are gone.

This leaking thing is pretty good for ATI at some point..More people use beta drivers and more bugs discovered...

Just tried it - X-Plane seems to be working again but I'll do some more testing (http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33929239).

Thanks for the help, I got the string figured out. Here's the section from CH_21649.INF if anyone else is game to try. Quote:

I don't think anything has to be changed in the inf. Did Spyre actually try any games or anything because AA is working fine, all modes. |

Well either way, I added the line back and have tested Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3. Antialiasing is still working correctly. Crysis yet again is faster. Though by the looks it could be across the board for DX10. Oh and yay, no more white dots! Pretty much confirms Hans's experience so far. |

It does need to be changed or the AA modes are all greyed out. Although it only affects X2 cards and Crossfire'd cards I think.

Well no AA modes are grayed out for me and I didn't alter any inf. I checked with some other people who have a 4870 installed (6 of them) and this driver and all modes of AA work for them also. Edit, just saw your edit, maybe it is a crossfire thing then, good to know. |

Heh, what a dilemma, who's advice to follow, long term ATI beta tester who's probably already used this set of drivers already, or the awesome guy who keeps finding these fantastic leaks. In all honesty adding the line hasn't seemed to have caused me any issues. So I would say it wouldn't hurt to do it anyway if your planning on testing these drivers out. Like I said it only affects Crossfire users or X2 cards if you are lucky enough to have a 4870X2. It doesnt hurt to add the setting in there anyway even if you dont have such a card setup.

They're a tiny bit slower in COJdx10 and Crysis DX10 compared with 8.52.2, but the white dots are indeed fixed ![]() CF-scaling is still quite bad with Crysis dx10 unfortunetly. Spyre, is there still hope? I read several times ATI is still not confident with the CF-perf , meaning they think it could be a bit better in the near future?

performance is like the official 8.7, the previous beta were faster (tried crysis dx10). Only issue so far, video(standard definition) deinterlacing is always using the "motion adaptive" algo, no more "vector adaptive" - the previous beta had deinterlacing disabled completely. White dots in crysis and the ping pong demo are gone. Furmark still has low fps. tested on: vista 32-bit, 4870 CF Thomas

Well back to 8.6 on my 4870 as FSX performance is in the toilet with both the 8.8 cat betas,8.6 is smooth in all but cloudy/overcast weather types where frames remain high but its stutter like crazy unless you cap ingame FPS but 8.7 & these last 2 8.8 beta's turn it into a stuttering mess with 6-12 fps....im thinking this might be linked to powerplay in some way ive moniotred FSX's CPU/GPU utilization in 8.6 both CPU cores are 100% with GPU utilization between 30% & 98% (its a very cpu limited game) post 8.6 drivers i get 1 core that jumps between 0-50% the other @ 0% and GPU utilization at <10% Something ATI is doing post 8.6 is really screwing up FSX not sure what it is but i really hope it gets fixed i had enought with Nv's ****ty driver support for this sim but sofar its almost like out of the frying pan into the fire.... |

Looks like the driver team has decided to put start-up detection for that benchmark, intentionally slowing it down, most probably due to its famous "overheating" application.

Oddly enough, it still produces 100% GPU activity and the expected temperature increases even when non renamed. Should we look for 200% activity?300%? Honest question. |

Anyone having CCC crashes at boot on these new ones? Not a big problem, as I can start it after the first instance crashes. Also, what settings are you using for Crysis? For very high I was testing 1440x900 no AA. |

Thanks for posting this I was kind of concerned about my FSX performance on my PC. I was using an 8600gt and had no problems running FSX on fairly high settings. After upgrading to my 4850 and using 8.8's it seems to run way worse. I'll try to swap to the 8.6's when I get home.

Well I found a deal breaking bug with this set. The automatic fan control is not working for my second card bringing it to temperatures that aren't safe. Back to the old set for me. |

It will take less than 5 minutes to make the modification. The Windowns flash program from techpowerup is working great with 4850.I already flashed mine and put fan at 70% minimum (I have Accelero 2900)

Just thought I let people know that the issue does happen, and maybe they can use your advice to work around the problem if they want to keep using them. |
