Has anyone here read this and tested the anisotropic filtering in any DX 10 games on the HD2900XT? And no this isn't from [H] its TR but so far they have been spot on. But I figured someone here could test it for themselfs. http://www.techreport.com/reviews/20...b/index.x?pg=4

Seems a bit fishy. Bound to be a driver issue, and as such ATi most likely knows about it but havent informed people. With all the controversy and mudslinging already taking place around the DX10 benchmarks done, this isnt gonna look very good.

Still cant play the demo, i have no idea. This is only of the few games that run like crap on my card or dont run at all, i hope it does get fixed. I still find it odd that the GTS loses ALOT of performance in DX10 mode, yet the GTX doesnt? ![]()

Even Call of Juarez has issues with anisotropic filtering in DX10 mode.

yeah this is definitely not the game to judge the cards on--- we need more dx10 games--- bioshock comes out in 21 days(i believe)... that should be interesting to see---

So, what works in this chip? Enable FSAA and performace drops like a stone. And now we're hearing that AF is borked too? Bring on R700. Or R800...or R900.... |

The leaked 8.4 have the fix, the performance drop is as expected when turning AF up to 16x. Not that you will be running CoJ or LP with 16x AF any ways and want playable FPS.

I've been around all the time. I usually hang around in off-topic though. Don't know. All I know it works in recent internal builds, and that it didn't work before. Nothing's broken about the AF. It's just a driver bug. Things like that happen when you write a new driver for a new API for new hardware in a new OS. |

As the drivers are not released, and we have no date they will be, don't you think people buying this DX10 card might want to know they can only play COJ, Lost Planet, and COH without AF? + rep for Vengeance for bringing accurate, important information to the public eye |

I'm playing Lost Planet in DX10 now- AF matters to me. If it doesn't to you, well, that's fine too I guess. I've gotten used to it and expect it. |

I noticed in what he said: 1. He did not confirm the fix was in the 7.8 beta drivers, he said he's seen it in recent internal builds. I assume someone on driver team knows what's in drivers going out the door, or can find out, and could have confirmed this is fixed in released drivers if it were. 2. I notice he didn't specify it's fixed for all DX10 games, or any specific DX10 games. 3. He also didn't mention what performance hit enabling AF in DX10 brings. 4. There was no mention of why this was not brought to the attention of reviewers so they could test the cards properly. In any case I've posted this news in a couple forums as well and I'd be happy to note in those posts the AF for DX10 is in beta now if Humus would like to confirm it's in the 7.8s, and if it works for all DX10 games now. I'd hate to mislead anyone. |

The card handles AF in DX9 just fine, and I'm sure it can handle AF in DX10 just fine. The card has been out two months and is still undergoing driver revisions. According to a few of you Nvidia guys, all of those MIT grads up there at ATI couldn't figure out how to screw in a light bulb. Some of us know better. Perhaps you'd like to respond to the matter of Nvidia deserting its user-base in XP from January-April when not a single driver was released--WHQL or beta--for nearly a 4 month span? Or perhaps you'd like to respond to the matter of the memory leak that occurs on G80 which has now gone 9 months without being remedied? ( http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=95651 ) Nvidia/G80 is not without its own problems. And I know that from personal experience because I owned it for 7 months. The drivers were crap for a long while.

1. It is fixed in the leaked drivers, I have verified it for myself and the [H] verified it in their Lost Planet review. 2. It is/was a DX10 bug, I have played alot of games on my HD2900s and havent found a single DX9 game that had AF issues. 3. The hit in performance hit is the same in DX10 as if enabling AF in a DX9 games. 4. If a reviewer missed the AF bug in their review then they should have their eyes examined, espically in CoJ where it was the most noticable. The leaked 8.4 it is fixed, so I would guess when the Cat 7.8 come out the fix will be in it. People are making way to much of this, it effected 3 games, and shows why people need to submit feedback tickets This is as big of but as Nvdia drivers not allowing SLI to be enabled with out a reboot.

I don't want to discuss NVIDIA drivers in this thread, it would be off topic. I hadn't seen the HardOCP article, it is just dated Wednesday after all, but I'll update my posts on the topic. Like I said, I wouldn't want to spread inaccurate information. ![]() |

where did I in this thread? OK maybe in a few others but not here! No this thread was a for real "not trying to start any crap question". And Humus answered it. Nothing got started until more questions got asked and then the fanboy "Elite Guard" had to show up and get him self banned again. ![]()
