ATI Technologies ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver

Hello,

I 'am just curious as to what these ATI T200 AVStream Drivers do and is it really necessary to update them the same way we all update our display drivers as they come out? What role do they play with FPS? Do you gain any FPS?

I use an Powercolor X1950 pro 512Mb.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

On a standard X1900 / X1950 class card the Theater 200 chip will provide VIVO functionality and on an All-In-Wonder class card it performs the same function but may also have some integral effect on video/TV which my also have some video-in video out features (input audio video signal and output audio video signals).

It should have no real effect on the typical 3D game functionality of the card.

It does get updated from time to time, wont affect anything other than VIVO or AIW use if you have a AIW card that is.

I could be be wrong, but to Agustus and Spyre, doesn't also interract with AVIVO and affect video playback and encoding options? I don't actually use these ever so I've never tested it, but there's the video playback options in CCC which I think must funnel through the Stream Driver.

In the X2xxx cards, the UVD I think also will work through the Stream Driver.

This is just guesswork since I've never looked at it that closely, but I believe it kicks in when you play video to apply any GPU processing that is available for whichever card you have. For HD playback, the X1xxx series gives "somewhat GPU assisted" playback, for example.

I agree, it won't have any affect on 3d gaming.
