Default Is Turbotax any good?

I thought about trying Turbotax this year instead of using an accountant. We'd get more money that way, but I never did it myself.

Also, how complicated would it be if I live in NY but work in CT? Does that mean I need Turbotax Federal, NY, and CT versions?

Thanks

You can use the online versions to do your taxes. I've used it for about 6 years now. I like it. It remembers your information from year to year, so filing becomes easier the longer you use it.

Turbotax asks you questions about living in one state, but earning your money in another so, it will tell you what forms you need to fill out and so forth. I suggest you try the online version first.

It's free to use until you actually file, then you pay a filing fee and you can file electronically in most states. Additionally, if you meet certain eligibility requirements, you may not have to pay a filing fee at all. It's called the Intuit Tax Freedom Project.

Woh... you can use it for free online and not pay unless you actually file? I like it!!! I'll give it a shot as soon as my wife and I get the necessary paperwork from our bank and work.

Thanks!

I've been using the CD-Rom version for years. If you buy it, you get one free electronic filing (Federal and State). Additional filings cost $19.95.

I always get my refund direct-deposited into my account just a few days after filing. Works great.

I've been using it since probably 2000. Never had any problems.

I've always used the CD-Rom version as well. Any disadvantages w/ going the online route? Sounds interesting.

I have no idea. They always send me a new CD-Rom every year, so I use it.

I can't answer that either as I've always used the online version. One advantage it does have is that you can do your taxes from anywhere as the information from the previous year is available.

Peace.
