Default EATM + ALPHASHARPENMODE , reg settings?

Quote:
As you can see in the images, not only does EATM double performance it also adds in and sharpens the Alpha Textures, making broken textures re-appear properly and actually attach some of the leaves on the tree to the tree itself. A good example of broken Alpha textures is in HL2 with fences, sometimes the chain link fences will be missing links in the chain. With EATM the fence is drawn properly.

Apparantly some are saying that using ATI TRAY TOOLS to set EATM and alphasharpenmode causes crashs , does anybody have the correct setting for it to be used in registry?

Someone on driverheaven said
Quote:
Just add EATM and ATMSHARPENMODE to the main ATI video director in the registry as a string and then give it a value of 1. It will differ for each system.
Where is the main ati video directory? i seem to have loads of directories lol

I just by-pass ATI tool tray. Just add EATM and ATMALphaSharpenMode and set the values to 1 -- to the correct registry.

Default No go

Either with ATT or through the registry "hack", it still causes my system to crash when launching World of Warcraft

1.) Uninstall all ATT software.
2.) Uninstall all ATI drivers and WDM drivers.
3.) Boot into safemode and run driver cleaner. Make sure to clean the DRIVER.CAB and SP2.CAB first then proceed with cleaning all ATI sections.
4.) Boot back into Windows.

Optional:

5.) Update Directx to the October releae if you haven't done so yet:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=013c0f78-3c9b-44dc-b8be-46783bcac3cb&DisplayLang=en

6.) Download and install GART drivers only if you are using an AGP system. With new drivers from Nvidia and ATI after you uninstall the driver it loves to take the gart driver with it. This causes issues like OpenGL errors and D3D errors.

7.) Download and install ATI Catalyst 6.12 and the WDM driver if needed. Do not install ATT, try the CCC first to see if it works without crashing.
8.) Add EATM and ATMAlphaSharpenMode to the registry as strings. Only do this in the main ATI Registry entry, this differs on everyones PC, do not add it to more then one registry folder. This could be whats causing your crash.

I personaly do not use ATT on any of my systems. Even though CCC is a memory hog I find ATT to be bloated with too many settings to go through. CCC I find is much easier to use.

Just tested EATM+ATMALPHASHAREPNMODE+WoW on a Dell XPS using a Mobility Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB. No crash game runs fine.

Did you notice any IQ or performance increase with that card? I was wondering what effect it would have on older cards.

There is definatley an IQ differnce, there is a larger hit in performance then compared with todays cards but its alot better then AAA.

Here is one of the reasons why I'm going bonkers for EATM.

World of Warcraft is a poster child to show-case EATM due to the amazing amount of Alpha tests in the title. Awesome to see others use the title as well to offer their gaming views!

Sorry about the night-time shot....but by going back-and-forth you get the idea of what EATM can do to help bring more immersion to existing games.

Performance Adaptive:
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1...ormanceye8.jpg

EATM:
http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1410/eatmso1.jpg

It's not just the idea of more alpha test detail --- but the sheer performance of the feature. And by adding more multi-sampling, well, you garner more alpha test IQ -- meaning detail and curbing shimmering.

There isn't much doubt that this feature is being developed for the R-600; and we are enjoying the by-product of it.

Having CrossFire offers the ability to see how this feature looks like with multi-sampling over x6 AA. And is simply a treat when you consider the sheer performance, too. Awesome frigg'n feature!

WoW is actually the only game I have installed on this new computer. I'm currently flying from IF to Darkshire as I type this.

I did find a spot in IF where there was some weird shadow stuff going on, this was by the Gryphon Master. I took a screenie of it and here it is:

Not sure if that is being caused by EATM/ATMALphaSharpenMode or not, but there it is, anyway.

If some of you haven't figure this out yet, you should try and add the registry settings too the 0000 folder that has a Catalyst_Version number of '6.12'.

Did you try disabling EATM and ATMALphaSharpenmode to see if the shadow oddness is gone?

The only oddness I've seen is with ATMALphaSharpenmode on transparent Alpha blends at times -- really notice this easily in FarCry at this time, imho!

I'm just glad I can have the EATM feature now. Probably will be official, one may suspect, when ATI offers the R-600 or, a little bit after on older generational products like ours.

SirPauly, do you think as I do, that EATM is infact the pixel coverage mask, talked about in the DirectX 10.1 spec?

How do you know if it's working or not!? (sorry for the stupid question)

I also noticed in the pictures that you are suppose to put them in the 0000 that has "ATI WDM COnfigurations" that does NOT have subfolders in it. Right!?

No................to me, it is an innovative ALpha Coverage. A more quality Alpha Coverage that in some ways looks like AA when zoomed in. Even has bars of color blending in high contrast color examples.

Engineers, must giggle when they hear gamers trying to figure out their hard and innovative work they do; and if one read my post right now -- falling off the chair laughing!

I don't know how they truly do it.....but I like it!

Have to try this out on Everquest 2. Sounds like it would definatly do wonders to the game in extreme graphics.

I didn't really notice a difference in EQ2. I don't have AAA turned on in EQ2 either.
