Default New to DS

Just got a DS. Don't know much about it yet but I was curious if you have a wireless router can you play your games like Mario Kart online against other DS users? Thanks

Yes, you can. There are options to hook up with other people either nationally or worldwide. If you have a buddy you want to hook up with just exchange friend codes and you can race eachother privately. Though all this is stated in the manual.

Hope you got the DS lite. and not the old DS. I traded in my old DS after i got my DS lite. It's the screen. The DS lite just looks sweet. It even brighter than my overly under used (oximoron ) PSP .

mario cart is a great ds game to play online. Only thing is you seem to get alot of different levels of players. I like the way they set it up in tetris ds where you mainly only play people of the same level as you.

i thought the wireless thing only allowed multiplayer between people you know that have a ds. guess i was wrong. so all you need is a wireless router which is connected to the interent huh?

going to pick a ds lite up next week if thats so.

For those who don't have a wireless router you can always buy This little USB gadget and get your DS online that way. I have one I use at work and it works awesome for me and the guys here in the office.

If you use Wireless router you have enable broadcasting SID for the DS to work; at least with my router and APs. By default broadcasting is usually enabled. I also had to upgrade my DLINK Firmware to the latest versions. If you use MAC address filtering the DS tells you the MAC so you can update your settings. I don't recall seeing 256 bit support for wep, but it does support 128.

For my Netgear router I had to manually assign the DS an address to get it to connect properly. I don't know if all Netgear routers are that way but keep that in mind if you have one and you aren't getting connected to it.

Had to set wireless to B/G mode for it to connect to ours.

The one on GC had 3rd person which sucks with cell shaded zelda and should have never been made like that BAD BAD BAD NINTENDO.
This one on DS just brings back old memories of the snes zelda
