Has anyone tried Xgl or Aiglx with these drivers? Maybe now that most cards are supported we can see support for the texture from pixmap extension, or a GTK+/QT+ based control center, or get the drivers on par performance wise with windows... |

Phoronix has posted their thoughts on the 8.24.8 drivers @ http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=6290 Also, we have up our X1000 preview, which consists of Linux X1800XL and X1300PRO tests as well as the X800XL, 7800GTX, and 6800GT. I also see no mention of the logout bug being resolved, nor the blank screen on startup bug. Oh well, my 6800XT should be coming this week. |

Hi, 8.24.8 has 2.6.16 support. I just compiled it. When building Ubuntu Breezy packages, the installer also adds some nice ACPI scripts which change power state on AC and lid events. And S3 and S5 (with suspend2) work fine. Best regards, Whoopie |

I don't think this driver is already compatible with kernel 2.6.16. Here is what I got when I compile it: Code:

It has taken more than 5 month to solve the problem (8.18.8 was the last version which didn't cause this bug). For an easy Xorg 7.0 support, maybe we need to wait one month more. I have tried it but I rapidly reverted back to xorg 6.9. First, the installer doesn't work because it doesn't find a suitable X_ORG dir. Then, if you extract it by hand and if you build a debian package, it can't be installed because of a dependency problem. FInally, you modify the debian control file to correct the dependency but after all these efforts, Xorg doesn't start. As I have already read, you probably have to copy file to the correct directory. However, I don't really know where to put all the needed files ! So, that's what ATI call a Xorg 7.0 compatible version. Indeed, you can read in the release notes: Minimum System Requirements Before attempting to install the ATI Proprietary Linux driver, the following software must be installed:

This is the first release that really works for me. It fixed every problems I had with playing doom3 with my radeon 9000 mobility No more X hangs Quake 3 works again (broken for at least the last release) Now, I will have to read some documentation to finally activate that tv-out. I tried a couple of 8.x releases, but I abandonned the proprietary driver last june since every new release were more and more broken. Now that it works for me, I will try it on a few other pc before recommending ati products. Unfortunately, we already buyed 10 laptops with intel video cards last month and my latest video card was a GeForce. My friends new computer was a GeForce and my coworker new card will be a GeForce. Now, if the open-source driver would run doom3 (and if the gatos patch could make it to xorg), that would be perfect. |

Forget about what I said, the game is freezing after 5 minutes (before, it was really slow and was freezing after 1 minute with a lot of output) and xv is not working. But I think it's still the first update that works better than the previous |

I installed the 8.24.8 ATI drivers on FC5 2.6.16 and 2.6.15. The drivers appear to load correctly and acceleration and DRI initializes. (c enclosed log). After booting the system into KDE, fglrx crashes ( kernel panic on a spin lock ?? ) the moment the mouse is moved or a key on the keyboard is pressed . None of the log files (dmesg, xorg.log messages etc ) contain any log of the crash. I was seeing the exact some behavior with the previous ati release and was hoping that this release would fix it. I've searched the relevant forums, mailing list, bug trackers but was unable to find a solution , or at least reason for this crash. Using the Vesa or xorg radeon drivers works without any crashes. Well i'm using a 64bits system, why did i need to load this module ? And by the way, I didn't find AGP_NVIDIA in my config file neither in "make menuconfig" |
