Default ATI x1300 PCIe linux support?

Is there current support (2d or,even better 3d) for the x1300 PCIe ati card in fglrx? What I have read so far seems to indicate the x1k line of cards is not yet supported, but I would like someone to confirm this before I decide what to do.
If indeed these cards are not supported in current driver, does anyone know when they will be?

Thank you for your help.

PS
Currently running Suse 10 64bit, 2.6.15 kernel, Xorg 6.8.2

As far as I know, neither the closed-source fglrx driver nor the open-source ones will work with any of the X1x00 cards. They have an entirely new 2D engine which is not backwards compatible with the R100-R400 chips. And as ATI most likely won't release specs for their new 2D graphics engine (AVIVO) we'll have to wait on it being integrated into fglrx... that's just 2D, I don't know how different the 3D engine is, but I imagine it had a similar overhaul.

In short, avoid X1x00 cards on Linux for now...

Thank you for the reply, Septor. Unfortunately, your post confirms my own understanding of the situation. It is a pity the x1k series of cards have no linux support, since the x1300 card looks like a decent choice for a quiet htpc / workstation with no emphasis on playing games.

Yes it does... I built my htpc a few months ago and I picked up a fanless x550... it has nice TV out and supports HDTV, although component (YPrPb) outputs don't seem to function correctly in Linux yet. Definitely go with a fanless card though, no matter what you get

For those wondering about the official Radeon X1000 Series + Linux support, in short here is an answer for when the support will be arriving:

Quote:
How long until the X1000 series will be supported by ATI's proprietary fglrx drivers? Well, earlier this morning we had spoken with Matthew Tippett from ATI's Linux department for a public comment and he has simply said that the supportive drivers are indeed coming and they will be out eventually, and he also said it will likely not be for a couple of releases at least. With the department's present strategy of releasing monthly Linux drivers as of late, these drivers will likely not be in the hands of the public until sometime this spring, unless of course a miracle was to occur with their development process...

Default Any updates?

Hey guys,
I got this card without knowing that Linux was unsupported. (I'm running XP and Ubuntu.) Is there any updates on this? Or will I just have to put off using Ubuntu until they come out with the fglrx updates?
Thanks!

No, no updates. You can use VESA if you feel masochistic. Otherwise, you should wait for fglrx to support it.

mm a friend of mine told me that ati actually doesn't provide 3d support for its pci express card like my x800gt card...
is it true?
i tried with kubuntu 6.04 and 8.22driver form repository and:
[email protected]:~$ fgl_glxgears
Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer
Error: couldn't get an RGBA, Double-buffered visual

The ATI Radeon X800 PCI Express series IS supported by ATI's proprietary display drivers under Linux. At this moment in time, there is simply the lack of X1000 series support.

Not entirely true. Some X800s are not listed in the PCIIDs in the fglrx driver, therefore they are not recognized and no 3D support is enabled. I think this mainly deals with X850s and not X800s though.

Actually, ask that question again soon.
