Default x1800xt vs 7800GTX(512 MB @ 550/1800 MHz)?

Hey guys, since nvidia is coming out with this new card really shortly, alot of speculation has surfaced that this card will supposedly "Kill" the xt. Personally Im starting to beleive it since that overall 40% clock increase will definately give nvidia the edge over ati this time around.

What do you guys think the outcome of this will be?

What's to keep ATi from having an AIB partner do the exact same thing w/ the XT?

Yeah shoulda made that multiple choice poll

But then again, even if ati wanted to release their r580, theres no way in hell they would be able to do it in time and have any amount of supply in such a short period of time. There isnt an abundant supply of x1800xt's right now is there. And on top of that they are pretty expensive to boot.

The 580 should be ready next month. I don’t know why they are messing with the "too little, too late" 520.

Its already over for the R520 before its even available to buy, and even worse for ATI the 512MB 7800 might be out first, In fact i'm sure it will be given ATI's track record with releases.. LOL

Having to release the R580 early will be a disaster for them..

I vote option 6. We will never see a stock 7800GTX clocked at those speeds.

Probably not but anywhere even close to those clocks and its curtains for the X1800XT.

The core itself, its been already confirmed by xfx that its attainable speed on air was 580, so 550. And when using samsung's new K4J52324QC-BJ11 1.1ns 1800mhz memory, it isnt hard to imagine this new "Ultra" acheiving those speeds.
Obviously for the core, some voltages will be raised a bit i would expect.

If you believe that the x1800xt will keep up with this claimed 7800GTX 512MB, you're smoking more crack than a junkie who sells their teeth for rocks.....Why it is so difficult to believe that nvidia can make a dominating card?

I'm gonna go with option 7.

7. Wait and see what comes out and when and at what price and take an objective view of the hardware in question instead of flinging fanboy fud and\or making wild claims based on info still in the rumors\speculation stage.

Because this is rage3d, half the ppl here are voting "the new 512mb gtx will beat ati by a small margin"... They have no idea how fast that GTX is going to be...

We are talking almost SLI performance from a single card here ffs !!

I vote option 7 and 8 both

7. Wait for Crossfire X1800XT and see benchies if it can destroy crap 7800GTX 512MB

8. R580/Crossfire R580 or R600/Crossfire R600 will spank 7800GTX 512MB.

Hrm a pure FP32 design or a FP16/FP32 design where a certain GPU maker decides what settings you want in game.
Beta driver releases whenever a card launches or frequent monthly updates.
TV-Out anyone?

There's more, but those are the ones i can come up with at the moment. And i know it's not entirely accurate.

This is entertaining!

The R580 is not going to be launched any time soon - remember it's been 5 months since the original GTX hit the market so Nvidia can afford to bring out a new high-end card now. R580 will be going up against G7x not G70.

An overclocked XT is an option but good luck getting it up to 825Mhz cause that's what it would need to compete with a 550Mhz GTX.

You should try to come up with stuff most people would actually care about. Like HQ AF or dynamic branching (in future games).

X1800XT would have been great had it been released on time. Nvidia has had too much time to prepare. If this thing is priced anywhere near the XT then it's over before it even got started.

I wouldn't get my hopes up on the R580 coming soon either. ATI is already in the red, no way they can afford to skip an entire product cycle.

I voted one for now. I don't have much doubt that the R580 will top it when it comes out. From what I have read, it appears to be on time unlike the R520. That would put the R580 out in January if they stick to 6 month time frame from the R520's intended release and get the roadmap back on schedule.

If these specs turn out to be true i think both will be on par or the GTX will be slightly faster.
remember the efficiency of the X1800XT didnt just come out of the higher core/mem clocks but rather the memory controller & the 512-bit ringbus & perhaps the dynamich branching performance.

in anyway we should wait & see.
