Default Rage3D NVIDIA GeForce 7800GT Review

I've just published our review of NVIDIA's GeForce 7800GT, their more affordable 7-series graphics card. Check it out right here.
I said at the end of my 7800GTX review that your only choice when looking for a high-end graphics card was the GTX. Not everyone can afford to drop that kind of money on a graphics card though, so thankfully we've been given a new choice in the form of the 7800GT. As you've seen, a slightly slower 7800 is still a smoking fast graphics card, and with a MSRP of $449 (the card is already well below that on the street), the 7800GT is within the reach of a lot more people.

Did you get to keep this sample this time Mark?

Man you've got a lot of penance to do once r520 shows. You better worship it when it comes out to maintain balance in the universe

great reivew, and I'm glad you decided to include this:
Quote:
With a MSRP $100 less than ATI's flagship Radeon X850XT Platinum and with the 7800GT winning most of the benchmarks, and also leading the way in the features checklists, I think the last nail in ATI's X8-series coffin has been hammered home.
X850XT PE has been killed. Many were holding off on buying a 7800GTX because the price was too much, but with the GT being priced lower than ATI's flagship card and providing more performance, there's really no use in going with an X850 anymore unless you're stuck with an AGP motherboard. Some may hold off because of the texture shimmering problem, but overall it's clear that ATI really needs to release r520 soon.

Excellent review Mark.

nVidia has certainly upped the ante. Now we get to see if ATi pulls out the winning hand or folds. Fingers crossed.

yep, I've asked NVIDIA about that and how would be the best way to go about overclocking considering those issues. They told me to use Coolbits.

Default nice work

Love the chart style in particular, being able to move up the ascending series of performance for each benchmark is the way all benches should be presented....

Boggles the mind somewhat, when you collapse them down to that much easily digestible screen real estate, how many runs were needed to generate one elegant interactive graphic... 1 data point = 1 run; 1 graph contains 5 resolutions * 3 cards * 4 quality settings = minimum 60 runs, not taking into account averaging....

Batch scripts aside, that's a lot of work.

yep, it is a lot of benchmarking, but the batch files pretty much automated everything for most games. It mostly came down to a matter of time. Here is what the results of one complete HL2 benchmark run looks like. I did 3 sets of these for each card.
