I had the samething. I think it was the program .NET Framework v2.0
i installed. I deinstalled it, and after restart i got the error message
( Cli.exe .....Fault (Blablabla) ). So i deinstalled .NET Framework v1.1 +
Hotfix to, and after that i cleaned my register ( Register Mechanic )
+ deleted everything els i could find of .NET Framework.
After restarting windows i reinstalled .NET Framework v1.1 + Hotfix
and after a second restart it was al fine again.
I think it was .Net Framework 2.0 what made a fault with .NET Framework 1.1
and made some registry fault or sum. Hope it works for u too!
Maybe its a other program u installed or an action u taken what
caust it. I hope it works for u 2...
Iam not a wizzkid so cant help u further...

Hello,

I have the same problem as all of you. Darn that ATI CCC. I have uninstalled .NET and CCC completely from my computer. Then reinstalled both .NET 1.1 and CCC 6.3. I have checked all of the services listed in this post and made sure they were Automatic (they were already). I went to the registry and made sure my user (only account and is the admin) had permissions for those keys. I've tried everything.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated!

Windows XP Home
ATI X800XL
CCC 6.3

OMG I LOVE YOU!!! IT FIXED IT!!!

FInally i can see the CCC!!!

I havent been able to see it for.....a long tme

I had to make sure event log actually started (when i changed to automatic it didnt change yet) so i fiddled with it going to manual and then automatic again until i saw it in the "started" column.

THEN i was able to enable "windows management instrumentation"
"windows management instrumentation driver extesions" this can be enabled without the event log one but all 3 needs to be enabled (im guessing) for CCC to work.

Thumbs up

I had this problem few days ago.

No one of those methods you've posted worked.

I've tried to install/reinstall/unistall Net framework and drivers (different versions, those without CCC too). Also I was looking for errors created by some services, I've stopped them/resteart/set to automatically... nothing.
Removing hotfix also done nothing.

And then, when I was just a step before reinstalling WinXP, I've tried the last thing that I could invent.

I've done registry rollback to the day before the CCC crashed.
And now everything is just like it used to be
I have even installed newest version of CCC, and it works great.

How to do registry rollback? Well, its imposibble when you have disabled system restore function....
Otherwise go to C:\System Restore Information\ (if you can't open this folder, disable option "Use simple file sharing" in Control Panel >> Folder Options, RMB on System Restore Information and add yourself to the users list, also enable all possible permissions.
In this folder you have subfolders called "RPxxx", find this one with the date of day before crash. In this folder you have another one, Snapshot, and here we need 5 files:
Quote:
_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM
_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE
_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM
_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SECURITY
_REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT
Copy them to empty directory (i.ex. create tmp directory in c:\windows).
Now rename them to:
Quote:
sam
software
system
security
default
(without extensions!)

Now its time to run Windows Recovery Console from winXP installation disk.
In comand propmt enter:
Quote:
cd c:\windows\system32\config
copy system c:\windows\tmp\system.old
copy security c:\windows\tmp\security.old
copy software c:\windows\tmp\software.old
copy sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.old
copy default c:\windows\tmp\system.old
(this will create a backup copy of you system registry)
Quote:
del system
del security
del software
del sam
del default
(those files must be removed, be sure you are in c:\windows\system32\config directory!)
And last step:
go to: c:\windows\tmp
and copy:
Quote:
copy system c:\windows\system32\config\system
copy security c:\windows\system32\config\security
copy software c:\windows\system32\config\software
copy sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
copy default c:\windows\system32\config\system
And done!
Reboot you system and now CCC should work.

I know that this method dont solve the problem... still I can't tell you what was the cause of CCC crash...
But if you really thinking about reinstalling XP, do this, it take's only few minutes.... and it works!

Default Drop the Catalyst Control Center and go with Omega

Well, I can't get the darn ATI CCC error to go away. So I just uninstall ATI altoghter. Uninstall the drivers and the CCC. Then go download the Omega drivers here

http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php

I get the exact same frame rates with it. Not only that but it has very advanced features if you are a graphics card overclocker or tweaker. But even if you don't tweak, just install it and it runs nice and smooth. It works great even if you are a beginner. Just download and install!

This is what I did to fixed this problem.

I had .NET Framework 1.1 + Hotfix and .NET Framework 2.0 installed.

I removed .NET Framework 1.1 + Hotfix.

I selected Change/Remove for .NET Framework 2.0 and selected REPAIR.

Then I uninstalled all ATI software.

Rebooted

Install Catayst/Driver 6.4

Rebooted

Then it worked fine.

Default this worked for me FINALLY

I just simply reinstalled .NET 1.1 and it worked! you don't have to reboot, (not for me) so if you have CCC installed, just reinstall NET 1.1 and it should work.

Default Solved!!

Here is what you do:
1. Open your services (Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services)
2. Find the "Windows Management Instrumentation" service
3. Right-Click on it and select "Stop"
(leave this window open)
4. Browse to your System32 Directory (Start->Run. Type "C:\Windows\System32" and click "Ok" button
5. Look for a directory named "wbem"
6. Open this directory (double-click on wbem name)
7. Rename the directory named "Repository" to something like "Repository_OLD" (right click on the "Repository" directory name and select "Rename" and type the new name for the directory and press Enter)
8. Close the window
9. You should be at the Services window again. If not, repeat step 1 to get the services window back open.
10. Find the "Windows Management Instrumentation" service
11. Right-Click on it and select "Start"
12. Reboot

Viola! The error is finally gone....

I had the same problem with a fresh install. Here is what I did in this exact order that fixed it:

Installed windows
Installed SP2
Installed Nforce drivers
Installed .NET 2.0
Installed Cat's

After going in that order everything was fine. Before I installed the chipset drivers before SP2 and same thing happened to me. Didn't even have the CLI.exe service running or windows management instrumentation. I did another fresh install and in that particular order and everything is fine now.

I had this problem after I had been tinkering with the services I had running. Never did figure out which service or services being disable was upsetting the CCC though.

Cheers,
Jez

I usually disable each and every service which my I don't use (after disabling everything I have about 5 set to automatic and 5 set to manual). Anyhoo xkxxkx posted that you needed to enable
Quote:
"event log"
"windows management instrumentation"
"wimdows management instrumentation driver extensions"
for it to work. Well I only needed to have WMI enabled to fix this problem. Just thought I'd share that piece of information with you.

I tried all the above without any luck.

Then I took a look at the event viewer log and saw that the Security Accounts Manager service was the problem. It was disabled.

It works fine now........

Thought it might be useful info....

Mine was doing the "You do not have permission..."

Here's how I fixed it:

Start -> Run -> "msconfig" -> Services tab

Make sure that Windows Management Instrumentation, Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions, and WMI Performance Adapter are all checked.

None of these made the CCC work for me
When I first contacted ATI's costumer support about this problem (not while ago), they acted like they've never encounterd it before...

I guess i'll have to use the Omega Drivers in the meanwhile...

Just wanted to add to this topic that this problem might also occur if tinkering around with the windows log-in procedure. i also got that error message after installing and using tune-up utilities, some of you might already have heard of it. this program makes it able for you to choose between the winXP login-screen and the old Win2K login-behaviour, where only one user at a time can be logged in (maybe you don't even need that tool to choose between both, but if so i wouldn't know how at least).

i now believe that it was this particular option that f*ckd my CCC up when i chose to use the old win2k-style login. this somehow seems to mess up the winXP user rights - thingy, don't ask me how exactly.
all of the three services that have been mentioned several times here had been activated and running all the time, so these cannot be the cause.

actually none of the possible solutions provided ins this thread worked for me so the only thing left to do was re-installing windows.

when doing so i actually did everthing just like i did it last time, EXCEPT for sticking with the winXP-login this time. and at least until now it works. hope it'll stay that way =P

dunno if this will help anyone, i just thought i'll add my experience here.

oh, and, since this problem has in many cases obviously something to do with the WMI, some people might finde the following link useful.

With a bit of luck and some Googling, you will often find exactly which service needs to be reenabled. For example, the CCC problem I was having caused an event mentioning winmgmt to be logged repeatedly. Googling 'winmgmt service' led to the information that winmgmt corresponded to Windows Management Instrumentation, and re-enabling that service fixed the issue.
Exactly my problem, just restarted WMI service and CCC now starts fine.

Default Watching horror at a distance...

I've been reading these posts with more and more amazement. I don't have any of these problems because I don't use the CCC. And maybe I lack the requisite patience to interact with wastes of time like the CCC, but I can tell you that the first time I ever get locked out of functionality and utility in any software/hardware stack ("You do not have permission to"...do thus and so) then that hardware and/or software will be gotten the hell rid of immediately and replaced by something else. I salute you gentlemen for your determination and endurance, but honestly, ATI or AMD (or whatever they're calling it now), doesn't deserve your loyalty or your patronage.

I've tried all the fixes in this thread and then some. What I've come up with is that my WMI service isn't broken but it takes about a minute after everything has finished booting before it works.

This means CCC in Windows startup will fail and I have to start it manually after waiting a while. Does anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this?

I presume you've got it set to automatic and Remote Procedure Call set to automatic as well under services.

Yes, RPC and WMI are set to Automatic under sevices.msc. Isn't that how it's supposed to be? And I can't change the setting for RPC anyway, it's greyed out. Normal?
