That's a common problem if you have your refresh rates overridden in win2k/winxp. Something about directx supplying the refresh rates info to the game, and if you used drivers (custome drivers?) or software that forces windows to use specific refresh rates the game won't start.

There is probably a way to force it to run with some command line launch options or editing some video/defaultvideo con files.

If nothing helps, just disbale the refresh rates "fix" you have.

Well that's too bad. You would think that DICE could have finally found a way around this annoying issue.

Changing renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1 doesn't work. So I am passing on the demo. Too much damn trouble. I'll wait for the full game before I have to disable my override of refresh rates.

Go to My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles\Default
Edit the file video.con
Change the line VideoSettings.setResolution
to the resfresh rate you are forcing; eg. 1280x960@75Hz

Worked for me

I used driver cleaner and installed my video card drivers again and it's working now so you could give that a try.

I use refreshforce and force refresh rates to lock at my monitors max. Re-installing the drivers will work because you lose the refresh locking. The problem is for people like myself who prefer to lock our refresh rates and also force vsync always on.
