Novell has three versions of Linux for sale. Suse Linux Enterprise Server (aimed at the server market) Novell Linux Desktop (aimed at the corporate Desktop market) & Suse Pro 9.2 (aimed at everyone else). All of them are official, just aimed at different markets. Oh just to make matters slightly more confusing next year will be added Open Enterprise Server which will have Netware's services running on top of either a Linux or Netware kernel. (the linux bit is SLES 9) have fun fmwt |

Well that's it for me! I have been lurking on this forum for about two months now, enjoying the conversations and waiting avidly for ATI to provide us with Xorg 6.8 and x86-64 compatible drivers. I'm not going to wait any more. If ATI had provided even a little communication to explain the non-appearance, I would have probably accepted it and waited. But their recent lack of any communication is completely unacceptable. So I am shortly going off to a local PC emporium and buying an Nvidia 6600GT or 6800 and will be taking the Radeon 9800 Pro, that came with my new PC, out. Also as a manager who specifies about 15-20 Linux installed PC purchases a year for my department, I will also be putting a non-ATI stipulation on my suppliers from now on. ATI should realise that some of us Linux enthusiasts and users, are actually responsible for Linux use in businesses as well. |

They also don't seem to understand that some of us buy hundreds of cards every year and that we decide on what to buy based on how good the Linux support is, even if the products are only to be used with Windows. They're probably digging themselves a hole larger than they can imagine. Only time can tell if they will fall into it or understand their mistake before it's too late.

I've been waiting since last March for AMD64 support - and I'm not waiting any longer (switching to NVidia). The university I work for will replace 300 student terminals with new PCs for which my colleague and I will choose the components. Since the OS that will be used is based on Linux, ATI will receive the same attention when choosing the graphic hardware like they pay to Linux users. Merry Christmas ATI! Hey guys. Sorry for the delay hitting this thread. I understand the frustration, but we had some unexpected requirements crop up that needed attention immeadiately. This has resulted in a number of stability improvements on the AGP, PCIe and AMD64 fronts for the new drivers. This unfortunately resulted in a delay for the drivers. We have completed the work, and now must wait for the web-posting train for ati.com for the drivers to be posted officially. With Christmas/New Year, this will most likely be before the middle of January. Not as a teaser, but as an answer to the questions, the new drivers will have a number of major new features... o AMD64/EM64T Support o XOrg 6.8 Support o GLSL o PCIe stability improvements And of course we have bumped the major.minor version of the driver to match the Windows driver. Once again, apologies to the Rage3D community for not being responsive for the last month. Some of the members on the Beta Program can probably make comment on the new drivers as well. Regards, Matthew

Well, we may have to wait longer than expected, but at least we have somewhat of a clue as to what is going on. Thanks Matthew, maybe there is some hope after all... |

Thanks Matt for the update. Even though its not the news we wanted to here (that the new drivers are out), at least it is news so we know whats going on.

I'm very curious about the AGP stability improvements. Any beta testers or Matthew want to comment?

I remember back when the phantom drivers would show up on schneider-digital.de ahh memories... What is this ati.com train anyway? We all know train transport is deprecated in modern society Here's to the new driver. Thanks for the information Matt!

I doubt any work would even be allowed on the "new set of driver things" if they didn't understand why they needed them. Most probably we are just waiting for someone to update the web pages and the "head monkey" to approve them.

Thanks Matt! Although you're bearer of a little bad news we really appreciate you taking us off edge, stopping us from continually refreshing the ATI linux page / trolling on this board / plotting raids on ATI HQ ![]()

I'm sorry. I can't belive that you people think that this is an awsome driver. It has the same features that NVidea have had for months now. Why should we be impressed by that? My birthday is January 9th. I'll be getting money to build a new pc. Where I'll be getting either a radeon or nvidea. Considering that that nvidea are offering sli and will no doubt implement this in their linux driver before ati even gives a half decent driver then I think I know what direction I'll be going in. I normally have no problems playing games at 1600x1200 but hl2 and hl source will refuse to load under the latest cedega. Even some older games which should work under wine I have problems with. I'm thinking it compatability problems with newer 2.6 kernels. Any hoo getting sick of waiting. Mike |

Thanks for the update indeed. What bums me out is, that now I do have a week worth of vacation, I can't use the new drivers to play around with. Kinda 'mean' so to say. All I can say I hope that the ati 'train' decides to release (update the webpage) before (or on monday maybe?) so that we can atleast use them durring the hollidays!
