Default CCC: Loading issues and what you can do to help

As mentioned in the title, I’ve been seeing various users still undergo the concern of CCC not loading for them. For the people who happen to have this issue, please take note of this thread. The intention of this thread is to help gather your systems info, in hopes that a closer step can be made to help users over come this.

How will this be done, quiet simple actually. Just a few simple steps on you’re behalf. What I need you to do is, is to copy an ATi .log file thats located in your systems event viewer. In there, you'll find that ATi have placed their own event viewer to which it keeps tabs to what’s going on when you access CCC.

If you are unsure on what to do, here are some simple steps to follow:

1. You can find the event viewer by following this path. Start – Control Panel – Administrative tools – Event viewer – to which you should see an event viewer labeled as; ACEEventlog. Good chance that most of you have yet to poke around in there, so I’m sure that you’re going to see many events backed up.

2. I need you to clean out the event log. You can do this by right clicking on ACEEventlog, and then by selecting ‘clear all events’. It will ask you to save it, in which you don’t need to. So I suggest you just get rid of it.

3. Once this has been done, reboot your PC. Upon your return, try to load CCC. For the ones who experience the non loading of CCC, go back to ATI’s event log. From there, you should see the timed events as to when your PC had logged back in from your reboot. Once you open up the event viewer, you should see timed events that are labeled with errors/cautions.

4. In regards to the timed errors, open them up and copy the logged contents. Once done so, come back here and paste that info to which you just retrieved.

So it should be something like this.
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ACEEventLogSource ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 12/10/2004 12:16:39 AM --- [Domain]: cli.exe --- [Type]: Error --- [ProcessID]: 3528 --- [ThreadName]: CLIDashboard --- [Assembly]: CLI.Aspect.DeviceTV.Graphics.Dashboard, Version=1.1.1796.670, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=90ba9c70f846762e --- [Namespace]: ATI.ACE.CLI.Aspect.DeviceTV.Graphics.Dashboard.FormatSelectionForm --- [Method]: UpdateCountryInfo --- [Message]: Supported Signal Format Range is invalid!.
That’s it… It’s pretty simple.

Though this info can be quiet informative for ATi’s developers, I’m cant guarantee anything from this. I just figured that seeing that this helped me resolve my issue, I figured that id share this info with you. Hopefully something will come from this.

I’d like to note that the discussion in this thread, will be VERY limited. This was created for the intent to help others by posting such info. If you want to discuss such things, keep it all in the thread thats been posted on the front page.

Greatly Appreciated Guys

Cheers
G.I.

Three events showed up after reboot. Every boot or restart I have to use the "restart runtime" command to get the CCC working.

Same here.
I get the same three events after a reboot. When I try to run the Control Center, it tries to start and then ends without any message. It only writes several more error messages into the event log.

After using the "restart runtime" command, it works.

Besides the .NET Framework, I also have the complete Visual Studio Professional 2003 installed.
My own programs written in C# or VB.NET also use the .NET Framework 1.1 and have no problems whatsoever.

Right click "my computer" then manage you'll see the event viewer there also, couple of steps less for XP.
This version 4.12 the CCC doesn't start and there's nothing in the event viewer at all. It worked fine before this version.

CCC fails to load upon reboot. Restart runtime will not work unless I manually kill CLI.exe in the task manager and then click restart runtime. This is a a completely fresh install of XP pro sp2/.net 1.1 + sp1 without any tweaks or overclocking. The ACCEEventlog shows 15 separate events after clearing it and rebooting.

I'm pretty disappointed that this hasn't been sorted out yet because it seemed that it was progressing along with every release.

Update: I uninstalled the .net 1.1 and installed .net 2.0 beta and it cured the problem for me. CCC now loads fine. Go figure.

Ive been trying to preach this. Tho its not 100%, its success rate from what ive seen and helped so far, is quiet high. I have to stress, please uninstall your older version of .NET and then reinstall the latest beta2 build. BEta2 version1 or something like that.

Application popup: CLI.exe - Application Error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I got this, no idea if this is what you wanted but this is what the properties said in the event log thingy after I tried to load CC.

Never mind I installed that .net2.0 thingy and it works now.

The CCC would not load for me again this time either allthough I didn't get the "No ATI Driver installed" error any longer , and I got a log event everytime I started the PC...but I forgot to copy them.

Also , I uninstalled the CCC 4.12's and reinstalled the reg CP 4.12's and I still have the ACEEventlog in my event viewer but no logs are being entered any longer.

Is there a way to get rid of the ACEEventlog?

and I have uninstalled the .NET and installed the Beta .net , still a no go for me.

You are cleaning out the event log before you start, right?!?

To what i said before, empty out the log, reboot, and then try to load CCC. Copy these events. Note, upon reboot quickly check the time that you logged back in. From withn the event log, anything from that time and further. IF, you have 41 events from this point on, then, well... wow, issues are an understatement.

I cleared the event viewer then rebooted with 41 events. Here are a few. I can give you all of them, but CCC is just for the fancy looking interface right?

I am going to try and install the .Net beta2 and see if that helps. I don't think I even have .Net installed (fresh install of WinXP with SP2 included).

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

That was the latest even with clicking on the "restart runtime". I get the same error at boot time as well. Like I said, I will try with .Net (I was getting ready to load this anyway since I have been in the process of completely rebuilding this system (my new hard drives arrived last week to replace the failed one's and I decided to upgrade to XP while I was at it since I had to do a complete install anyway do to the hard drive failures, was running diskless with a live CD distribution of linux)).

Hi:
I could not get the CCC to load for more than one or two cold boots until I did the following:

Uninstalled .Net Framework v1.0
Uninstalled .NET Framework v1.1
Installed .NET Framework v2.0beta
Uninstalled ATI Control Panel from non-CCC Cat 4.12 package via Add/Remove Programs.
Uninstalled ATI drivers from the non-CCC Cat 4.12 package via Add/Remove Programs.
On Restart, installed Cat 4.12 CCC included package.

ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256MB AGP retail (Cat4.12)
DV-I: Primary/Monitor #1 Samsung SyncMaster 213T Black 21.3” TFT
1600x1200 32bit 60Hz (native)
VGA: Secondary/Monitor #2 ViewSonic P225f 22” Aperture Grille CRT
1600x1200 32bit 85Hz

WinXP HE SP2 full/clean slipstream; DX 9.0c
P4 2.8GHz/533MHz FSB retail
1GB OCZ PC1066 RIMMs

Its been loading fine now for ~ 2 weeks.

The only oddity is that Windows Update now lists .NET Framework v1.1 as an Optional Update I should install.
I just ignore that.

Happy trails,

Now I had the same cli .exe could not exicute stuff. So then I ran windows update. Downloaded the .net 1.1 update, dida restart and It works now.
I didnt have to keep reinstalling the video drivers, or any thing like that.

Just discovered my CCC only loads if DEP in SP2 is turned off.

Here is my event log when DEP is on and CCC will not load.

Removing Net Frame work and reinstalling it solved my problem. This time I did not apply NET Framework SP1 update. I think it was the sp1 update that broke it since I remember it working before apply the NET SP1 update.

Talking

Well, I feel I should come with an update. I made the second post in this thread. It turns out the problem was caused by Lavasoft Ad-Watch (Ad-Aware component). It was set to Automatic mode and blocked some registry keys from being created when the CCC was installed.

I set Ad-Watch to manual and reinstalled the CCC. I had to confirm two registry changes with Ad-Watch. The CCC is now working just fine!! My problem is solved. Thought I should mention this in case any of you are also running Ad-Watch in Automatic mode.

This is with net 1.1.
The problem occurred after doing a fresh install of everything, before formatting it worked fine. Now I have to restart the runtime everytime.

I hope someone will read this and have a clue why i cannot install the CCC.

I had .NET 1.1 installed. I installed the 5.1's w/CCC. Rebooted. Drivers installed fine, but no CCC. No CLI.EXE, nothing.

So i downloaded the CCC seperate package, and tried to install seperatly. The InstallShield Wizard starts, (the Dialog Box w/the ATI Logo on left and fancy abstract backdrop), says the wizard is preparing to install, then it blinks, and the Dialog box then says

"The wizard was interrupted before ATI Catalyst Control Center could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.

Click Finish to exit the wizard. "

and then closes. It will not install. OK yeah i know try to reinstall .NET. Did that. Uninstalled 1.1. Installed 2.0. uninstalled 2.0. Reinstalled 2.0. Same thing happens every time. Tried Uninstalling Drivers. Installing Drivers. Installing CP. Install CCC, still no go. I've tried a million combinations of uninstalling and installing. Anyone have a clue?????????

.NET seems to have some sort of a problem but it says its installs with no problems. One question I have is that in my Services I have a Service called ".NET Framework Service". I don't see that service on any other system that has .NET installed, only the ASP.NET Admin and ASP.NET State Services. The ".NET Framework Service" is not running, and if i try to start the service i get an error that says

"Could not start the .NET Framework Service on Local Computer
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."

I cannot find much help about .NET Framework Service on M$ website or Googling. I'm stumped. About to reinstall Windows, but that is last resort. Help!

Default strange...

well, my ACE event log is empty...i have the 1.1 .net framework (i'm pretty sure since i 1.windowsupdate a lot and 2.i use MS visual studio.net.

anyway, i just installed the 5.2 drivers with their ccc, restarted, and this is what i get...2 nifty messageboxes telling me :

*********************************
cli.exe - fatal error (title)
===================
CLR error : 80004005
This program will now terminate
*********************************

this thing is what appears when i reboot, try to run cc manually or restart the runtime.
and idea what/why that is?

Also try this.
When one asks CCC to start in which it doesnt, go into task manager and kill the CLI.exe thats using the most mem. After doing so, wait for a few secs to see what happens.
