Yes yes i know it's a wonderful game. I'm sure that i'd love it if i could play the damn thing. Has anyone been watching the steam and half-life websites? They are being POUNDED by people who can't play or even install the game. I've tried my copy on two different computers and three drives and it won't even begin to install. Tried registering with steam to communicate on the forums about these issues and it won't even let me activate my account because the server is too busy. This sucks beyond all reason. ![]()

I wouldn't say its a total disaster, as compared to the total number of copies sold, the actual numebr of people having problems is small. Though of course it could have been better, but hey thats the way it is.

I completely disagree. I've seen a lot of big games hit the maket over the years and i've never seen close to this many problems. If you haven't been having issues than you probably just haven't noticed. Just look at the steam website, there are 13 pages of fixes listed! That is just not normal for the second day of a release. http://steampowered.custhelp.com/cgi...user/entry.php

When you try something new and it uses 10,000Mbps 24/7 it's bound to have problems early on. I didn't have troubles at unlock time, it's unfamilar territory for many gamers. Maybe for HL3 they will have fixed these problems up ![]() |

It will have more users with problems than those other 'big titles' because (1) It has sold more copies on the opening day than those other big titles you speak of - so everyone is trying to download/activate/validate/unlock at the same time. (2) Its a new method of distribution, never being tested before on wide scale. (3) Its a new method of anti-piracy, also being implemented for the first time in a single player game. (4) Its not just one game being released, everyone gets CS:S and HL2, and others all the other games bundled into gold/silver. With all these factore against them, there are still millions playing fine - and a couple thousand having issues. Yes, I DO feel bad for those having problems, it must be frustrating paying the high price for this game and not being to play it. I'm just saying that the launch is not a 'total disaster' as for most ppl who purchased HL2 have no major issues with steam/the game.

that must be killing you that there are allready multiple people on this board alone who have finished the game, and you aren't even able to start the bloody thing! I thought mine wasn't working when I noticed the traffic stop but I soon realized it was unencrypting the files (over 3gb worth) and it took a good 20 or so minutes before downloading the last little piece to get it working, how long have you waited for it praytell?

Well, I'd say that Valve probably seriously underestimated the requirement for servers, but I paid for HL2 last night, left my PC running and this morning HL2, CS:S and HL:S were all sitting there ready to play. Seems like when it's working it's a pretty good deal. |

Nope, not a big disaster at all. Hell, The Sims 2 was a bigger screw up, those forums are still packed with computer neophytes who don't even understand the system reqs on the box flap, but by the pure volume of copies sold it's hard to call it a disaster.

Lets see within one hour of the official release I was playing HL2.... nope not a disaster in my books. Smooth as silk as far as I am concerned. I'm sorry to hear that some people are having issues though.

I logged in about 8 hours after it was released and it took about 5 minutes to unlock the preload files. I was up and playing after that with no problems. Not really "disaster" material in my book.

This is only hasty people complaining over nothing... Yes I know it did take a long time to valitade on steam (about an hour here), but still it did and I had no problems to log in. Seems like a lot of people have born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

i put in my machine and i want to play the damn thing. All i'm saying is that there are some major issues and therin I am letting off some steam. I pointed out the facts. Just look and these threads that are being made. http://www.halflifesource.com/forums...ad.php?t=22794 40% of people aren't having issues?! What? 60% of the people playing are having issues!? It took the Doom3 problems thread two months to reach 100 posts. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33773160 The Halflife problems thread? 2 days!! http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33791536 So, i'm not knocking the game and i realize the work that goes into the technology(HL2) and trying new things(steam). I am simply pointing out an obvious fact while venting some frustration.

I was playin' HL2 within 15-20 minuntes of popping the disk in, today, so it seems like Steam's working fine (DSL does help ). But if 40% is true...that'd be pretty bad...
