Default 4.12 Beta drivers modded for 9800 Mobility

Given the impending release of HL2 the performance improvements brought by 4.12 Beta couldn't be let go to waste. So I've modded the drivers for use on Mobility 9800 (should work on other Mobility setups too). I couldn't be arsed running lots of comparisons sorry, so I can only say VST gets 42fps @ 1920x1200 (0xAA, Trilinear, All high) on Dell Inspiron 9100 (3.4Ghz, 1GB PC3200, Mobility 9800 256MB). I must credit Patje (Driverheaven) for his 4.10 Mobility mod which was the basis for the mod.

So get them here.

The .zip file is corrupt. Try re-uploading it. I tried various .zip readers, all give me the same issue.

They seem to work installing wise, but when i try to install them, they tell me the gfx card it installs the drivers for is a "9600" which is a bit sad since i have a "9700 pro"

Any "simple" way to fix such or ?

It's just a name. Don't worry. The card runs as if it was a RM9700 The clocks are taken dierctly from the card's BIOS. Hence the drivers won't chagne them. Besides, RM9600 and RM9700 is technically the same card... If You can oversee the name of Your card, everything will run aOK

Looking at the CX INF file, it appears that there are a number of cards which match the M10 tag - both 9600 and 9700. My guess would be that your card has a VENDOR or SUBSYS ID which matches the INF files mobile definition for a 9600.

If you really want to see your card listed as 9700 it may be possible to edit CX_19199.INF in the XP_INF folder and change the strings from:

Code:
"ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600" = ati2mtag_M10, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E50
"ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 " = ati2mtag_M10, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E50&SUBSYS_11021028
To:

Code:
"ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700" = ati2mtag_M10, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E50
"ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700 " = ati2mtag_M10, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4E50&SUBSYS_11021028
Another option may be to get a version of your vendors drivers and lookup the SUBSYS ID for your card and add it to the above lines.

Hope that helps.

_Pablo

Question

The funny thing is, when I enter Ati Control Panel (in Display Properties) it says the drivers are Catalysts 4.10 I'm pretty sure it should say like Catalyst 4.12b ur somethin'

That's what it says exactly:
Quote:
Catalyst version: 04.10
2D Version: 6.14.10.6497
Package version: 8.062-040929a-018115C
My version is polish, so I don't know if those are the exact translations.

I don't like the "8.062" part... It looks like Catalyst 4.10 version.

I installed the drivers as follows:
1) Uninstall ATi Display Driver
2) Uninstall ATi Control Panel
3) Reboot in Safe mode
4) Run Driver Cleaner 3.3
5) Clean .cab
6) Clean drivers (all for ATi)
7) Reboot
8) Install in normal mode
9) Reboot

So I don't think I did anything wrong... Any ideas?

I installed the drivers modded by _Pablo256.

Thanks Qbah. It's my error, I had used version strings from Patje' 4.10. So whilst it was using the 4.12 Beta files and all the CS:S goodness within, the ATI Control Panel was begging to differ and was reporting the 4.10 version.

I have corrected this and uploaded the new version (22579929 bytes) and my apologies for any confusion and time wasted.

No biggie, _Pablo256 As I understand it's only the name, that's wrong (I got some hefty performance increase ). I don't mind having it that way. Let the Control Panel say whatever it wants... I know better Thanks for the release!

Hi,

I have a IBM T41p with a ATI Mobility FireGL T2.

I cannot get these to run. I get a "INF Error - Video Driver not found".

Any ideas?

Thanks

Search the www.talknotebooks.com forums.

Actually I do. Even with the 1.03 bios update and using hacked cat 4.10 drivers or omega's latest 2.5.90 I still couldn't play dvds or most video formats without MAJOR jerkiness and or video/audio sync problems. The shipping firmware and ati 7.9 based drivers worked fine but of course were out of date and AFTER the firmware update using the sager supplied 8.04 version drivers it worked.

This driver seems to be working fine too. I'v already been on the notebookforums.com site as ull find me posting there under their sager 4xxx section. I am having other issues and am 70% positive right now that I have a faulty/overheating m11 chip on my eurocom d470k.

Just a heads up on my findings with these drivers.
I have an FS AmiloA 1630 with a MR9700 128MB in it and tried these. I went from 51.48fps to 57.86fps from the omega 4.10b to this lot (on CS:S VST at 1024*768 high settings). Only problem is that it doesnt seem to have support for wide screen formats. I have a 1280*800 15.4inch screen, and text looks REAL bad at 1024*768.

Nice drivers, and they work, but no good for widescreen users.

Strange - I was able to pick 1920x1200 and 1280x800 (Dell Inspiron 9100 with 1920x1200 WUXGA 15.4 Widescreen on M9800) in both Desktop and CS:S.

I'm not sure if it's still going or if it supports 4.x Catalysts, but you could try Rage3DTweak to setup custom modes.
