Default 'Win32PrioritySeparation' misconception

Those of you using the '26' HEX tweak should know that due to the way Catalyst is programmed the optimal setting is the default of '2' HEX.

Watch your stutters disappear.

And this information is gleaned from where?

FYI, when installing Windows 2000/XP/2003, the default Win32PrioritySeparation value is set to "2" which is the Maximum supported value in WinNT. However, toggling it from the default to Background services and then back again to the default sets it to 38 (26 HEX), which is the maximum value supported by the newer OS's. So, it's not a tweak.

I noticed this behavior over 4 years ago...

This 'behaviour' you are referring to is actually a bug. When you set it to 'Background services' it changes the value to 26/38. When you set it back to 'Programs' it is supposed to change it back to 2/2 but due to a bug it doesn't. At this point the bug isn't critical so they are concentrating on other things. Not to mention the fact that anyone messing with this should also know what value in the registry this changes and what values should be used.
This is why on default installation the value is 2/2, because it IS the default value.

As for why this works best with ATi is the same reason why 'LargeSystemCache' should be disabled. Catalyst drivers use system pages in a different way when compared to NTFS.

I would go into specifics about why it is more efficient but I don't feel like it and it would propably go over your head anyway - no offense.

So, you are now saying the opposite of what you posted about a year ago in this forum: http://forum.osnn.net/archive/index.php/t-34249.html

You seem to me to be someone who believes their own importance...

I'm done talking to you.

Thats fine, but just for the record that is not me. I only use Polygon-Paradox here and Driverheaven, only there its PolygonParadox, everywhere else I go under the name RingWraith.

Obviously I need a more unique account name.

Oh this is classic. A fool tries to exploit the anonymity of the Internet to save face.

You and the person at OSNN are one and the same. Polygon-Paradox is a VERY unique name....
