Does anyone have kernel '2.6.8-1.521', with the ATI drivers 'fglrx-4.3.0-3.14.1' (3.9.0), with the latest Fedora patch 'fglrx-fedora.patch' (from fedoraforum.org) running, and if so do any games work? I've tried a few different drivers and I can't get ut2k4 to work. Tuxracer works, glxgears works, direct rendering is on. I keep getting the below error after running 'ut2004' from console and the resultant crash. I am running a 9800 Pro. Any help is appreciated. Others at that forum have reported the same issue. I've seen one thread here that said to ignore it/harmless, but since ut2004 won't start, it's hardly harmless. WARNING: ALC_EXT_capture is subject to change! Here's somebody else with the same problem. http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/in...=0&#entry30323 It's interesting that the above OP mentions libGL, because Fedora just had an xorg update and I had a heck of a time installing the following; xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL-6.7.0-9 xorg-x11-Mesa-libGLU-6.7.0-9 In fact I had to deinstall the ATI driver to get them to install, then reinstall the ATI driver after the update due to a conflict. Unfortunately xorg-x11-Mesa-libGLU-6.7.0-9 can't be uninstalled due to a myriad of downstream dependancies. and more.... http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20783 http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23243 http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23071 Edit: Bug opened. I am happy for any suggestions. ![]() https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=134737 Last edited by harryc : Oct 5, 2004 at 03:45 PM. |

libGLU is needed by so many apps and libraries down to libGL, you should NOT tamper with that, instead you can just uninstall xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL without any problems and no deps will be broken (as long as you have the ATi drivers installed).

Thanks for the information. I uninstalled xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL and no difference was noted in the UT2004 problem. |

Thetargos, there is a dependancy between the two packages that prevents me from uninstalling them both. I can uninstall xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL, but then I can't uninstall fglrx. So I can't load new ATI drivers with xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL uninstalled. If xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL is installed, then I can uninstall and install the ATI drivers, but that defeats the goal here. [root@localhost root]# rpm -e xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL [root@localhost root]# rpm -e fglrx error: Failed dependencies: libGL.so.1 is needed by (installed) xscreensaver-4.14-5 libGL.so.1 is needed by (installed) xmms-1.2.10-2.2.p.1.fc2.fr libGL.so.1 is needed by (installed) mplayer-1.0-0.10.pre5.1.fc2.fr libGL.so.1 is needed by (installed) xorg-x11-libs-6.7.0-9 libGL.so.1 is needed by (installed) xorg-x11-tools-6.7.0-9 libGL.so.1 is needed by (installed) xorg-x11-Mesa-libGLU-6.7.0-9 libGL.so.1 is needed by (installed) chromium-0.9.12-25 libGL.so.1 is needed by (installed) tuxracer-0.61-26 Last edited by harryc : Oct 6, 2004 at 09:10 PM. |

You can uninstall the driver with --nodeps, as long as you replace the driver ASAP, you should not have any prlblems with deps ![]()

Ok, I uninstalled xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL and the fglrx drivers with --nodeps, then I reinstalled the fglrx drivers (newly patched and compiled) and xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL. Same problem with Ut2004. Unless one of the developers comes up with a fix, I am thinking the only way to get the ATI drivers going again is a complete reinstall of Fedora. ![]() |

From what I understand you re-installed MESA GL?? The whole point is to uninstall it!! That's why I told you to uninstall xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL and fglrx, then install ONLY fglrx... so the only libGL in the system is from fglrx and NOT xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL.

Thetargos, I had anticipated your question and I had tested UT2004 directly after the newly installed fglrx drivers and immediately prior to reinstalling the xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL package. Same result, UT2004 crashes as above. |

I think I just had the same thing happen after doing an update in fedora. If this is the case, reinstall the fglrx driver rpm, no need to do the config though. go to /etc/X11/ and remake your symlink "ln -s xorg.conf XF86Config-4" startx and try the game also join the icculus.org ut2004 mailing list ![]() EDIT: After reading this sober the next day I bet the fedora update just removed the symlink. Make the symllink and I'll bet that fixes it. Last edited by L0stm4n : Oct 7, 2004 at 12:45 PM. |

Thanks for the tip, but it did not work. [root@localhost X11]# ln -s xorg.conf XF86Config-4 ln: `XF86Config-4': File exists Last edited by harryc : Oct 7, 2004 at 09:00 PM. |

Also I think the command should be " ln -s XF86Config-4 xorg.conf" not the opposite..

No, the command is in fact "ln -s xorg.conf XF86Config-4" from the man page... ln [OPTION]... TARGET [LINK_NAME] |

Thought you wanted to link the old XF86Config-4 file to the new xorg.conf...

You do, you want to create a link named XF86Config-4 pointing to the file xorg.conf. |

Thetargos, (any everyone) thanks for the reply. I recreated the symlink per your instructions exactly, ut2004 still crashes. |

The only time this happened to me, it turned out to be some other problem than the GFX card (and the game per se). Alas my problem was different (the game would crash whenever I opened the community or on-line tabs in the menu), I had to re-do my /home directory for it properly work, what was/were the conflicting file(s) I cannot say... Also, in the list some people had trouble when they first moved to the new patch try re-installing it.

Update: Fedora xorg development closed the above bug as 'Not a bug', and I received no replies on the ut2004 mailing list. |

Ok, to be entirely sincere with you, the only time I heard of such a thing (I did have the problem, but with a SIGHUP instead) I had to re-do my whole home directory (that meant also to re-do all my GNOME customization). My advice: Create a temporary account and see if the game properly starts up with it. If it does, you may have to do the same as I (if you want to game with your usuall user). I don't exactly know which files conflict and end up in a SIGSEGV or SIGHUP, but I've only seen this twice (with your case thrice) and it is a rare happening from what I have been able to gather.
